Question about gasoline...
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 01:39 PM by snacker
my daughter just called and told me she mistakenly (?) filled up her gas tank with the "expensive" gas---will that harm her car's engine (Honda Civic) or just cost her more? Anyone know? Thanks.

2. no
the higher octane won't hurt her engine. Not to worry, it will just cost her more.

5. won't hurt it a bit
Higher octane fuel won't harm an engine designed for regular gas. It may actually get slightly better fuel mileage using it, though probably not enough to tell the difference.

Now, if you have a high-performance engine designed for premium and you run regular in it, you can have problems.

17. I had an ex fill my car with diesel once...
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 04:52 PM by tk2kewl
She swore up and down it was regular gas.

The freaky part is that the oil pressure gauge stopped working at the same time, so after I tore apart half of the engine and found that the oil pump was functioning, I took her back to the gas station to show me which pump she used.

Guess what?

13. I had a 4-cylinder Cadillac Cimerron.
And the high-test gas was the only thing it would run on. Otherwise, I would get pre-ignition knock. So, I'm certain your daughter's car will be just fine.

15. It's OK
Now if she put diesel in her two month old Honda vehicle like my niece did, then there would be a problem.
