Lots of people join because they have a dream for bettering the world. Like, there's a lady in the Northwest who's selling drugs so she'll have the money to start a kitty rescue operation: she's really nice, and she only sells to addicts -- it's not like she uses drugs herself. And there's this dude over in the Panhandle who handles stolen army equipment, but he always uses some of the money to buy cellphones for homeless people cuz it's his dream that everybody should have a cellphone.
