Saturday, January 6. William Shakespeare's Thought For The Day:

"There is either liquor in his pate or money in his purse
when he looks so merrily."

The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Act II, Scene 1, Lines 182-183.

Another running theme here: the idiot-clown laughs...and laughs...and...

3. What a great picture, Aristus!
And a perfect quote to accompany it.

This man is embarrassing!

On a brighter note,

Where were you tonight , my friend?!?
We had one heck of a game thread going
here.

Our Hawks won!!

It was very close - Dallas 20- Seattle 21.
They're still in the running.

;-)

8. I was at our church's Saturday service.
I had to drive my wife to the airport early this morning, so we went to church yesterday. Just as the congregation was leaving, the pastor announced the result of the game. There was a huge "WOO-HOO!" from the parishoners. B-)

13. Wonderful!

I didn't mean to snoop. ;-)

I'm so glad to hear your pastor announced
the results. It sounds like the Hawks have
a lot of backing from the hometown crowd.

11. Right on, my man!
Cheers! :toast:

Question for you - How are you coming up with these things? Do you really rummage through your books or have you memorized quite a bit of Shakespeare? I'm always curious as to how these things come to light.

12. I wish I could say that it was all memorized, Bullwinkle.
But it's not. I cheat quite a bit. I don't think I could ever remember Act, Scene and Line like that. Remembering each quote word for word is not such an important thing, though. Depending on the play, there may be several different versions of the text, including the most famous quotes. Shakespeare's plays were not produced in an authorized version until six years after his death. Until then, publishers often printed versions of the plays that were stolen from preliminary drafts, the prompt book, or versions cobbled together from memory by spies planted in an audience in order to "steal" the play. (Plays were not copywritten in Elizabethan times.) So I have a number of different texts, with different editors.

They include:

The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare, unabridged.
The Yale Shakespeare
The Riverside Shakespeare
The Library Shakespeare

That keeps me going. B-)

15. Thanks Aristus ....
My curiosity is satisfied. Now - do you teach? Or are you just a bibliophile such as myself - you, however, are much more advanced!

18. Nah, I don't teach. I can't teach. Teaching, like everything else, is a talent.
One which I don't possess. I just like Shakespeare. And I try to get people I talk to to like him, too. B-)
