You know, I have no issue discussing sexuality...
not in the LASCIVIOUS sense, mind you. Just... sexuality. Maybe I mean sensuality? The beautiful coupling of two people. Love shared, in the most ultimate way.

Why are so many in the nation scared of the topic?????????? It's a wonderful thing! :loveya: :grouphug: :loveya:

2. Because, I think, part of what makes it wonderful
is that it's shared privately between two people. I don't mind speaking about it in general terms, but I don't like speaking of my personal intimate life. Then again, maybe that's because I don't have one!

3. You know, I agree with that...
because if one were to get raunchy, suddenly intimacy becomes a "B-rated" endeavor.

That's a very dear compliment, and you give me hope! The truth is that my marriage is ending but is not yet ended so I'm really not looking. I am 43, have three kids and have been at home for years and years and years. In many respects I am not a very enticing prospect. It's okay; I'll be fine.

4. Are you kidding? We're talking about it all the time
I think it'd be nice if I could go through a day and not reminded of sex or sensuality every now and then, but I don't see any likelihood of that happening.

11. It's a rather consuming aspect of our lives...
we are crafted to procreate, so it's difficult not to think about it. And we do need a LOT more love in the world... :)

17. I couldn't agree more with that
"And we do need a LOT more love in the world"

but love does not equal fucking.

I know, the urge to fuck is what makes the world go round, virtually, but I so wish I could just have one day without seeing a half-naked lady on a billboard, or in the newspaper. Or anywhere.

It's just so pervasive, and so cynical. :(

22. You prefer lingerie over a bare body, don't you?
I ask this, because I'm starting to think that we have pushed the envelope so far, that now being a bit more discreet is as effective as being completely bare.

28. I like nakedness
I think the female form is extremely beautiful. But context is important. I don't appreciate seeing it plastered on a billboard while I'm driving to work. It seems like a violation of my mind. It's like, there's a time and a place for sex, and there are times and places that are definitely not for sex. I can barely stop thinking about it anyway, but they just make it completely impossible.

I think most people will probably think I am wierd.

7. Honestly?
Its about control and emotions. See sex is a powerful emotional thing. It changes things. It changes how we think. Any institutions that are interested in controling or guiding our actions are going to take note of this. It can take our minds off their message.

Furthermore there is evidence to suggest that within the ancient Christian communities there were numerous methods used to attempt to achieve communion. Some of these were sexual in nature. As the various sects competed with each other and purged one another the sects that used sex to achieve communion were purged and demonized. Thus sex as a means of communion with anything higher was considered an abomination.

There have also been numerous monks and clergy that became convinced that sex interfered with contemplation of God. One notable monk even went to the extreme of smashing his testicles on a rock to remove the distraction he believed they provided.

15. That is a VERY interesting perspective.
Your last points, especially. Just take a look at the Catholic Church, for Pete's sake (literally, now, for Peter's sake...)! They might as well have placed eunuchs before the host and chalice, but the entire point of eliminating sexuality for the priesthood was so that priests would never be distracted from serving God.

18. Christianity is a baby in religious history
The religions you are referring to that got 'purged' are probably the remnants of pagan cultures that were geographically overtaken by Christianity. Or, Judaism. It saddens me to think that some of the most healthy religious attitudes toward sexuality are pretty much lost to history and much of the world is dominated by a religion that holds a man who was for all intents and purposes a eunuch and a woman who was a supposed virgin up to be ideals. Tragic, and it's no wonder there is such pain in our society concerning sexuality because of it.

24. Actually
I am references observations made by ancient Romans concerning the then new Christian sects. There was a very large build up of different Christian sects prior to Nicea. A great deal of struggles concerning what practices, rites, texts, and nearly every aspect of the belief was struggled over. There was often open warfare between early Christian sects. Until the bible was codefied anyone's guess was as good as anyone elses what was what.

38. I guess I just don't think of Christianity and Rome as ancient
I find paleolithic and early neolithic religious/spiritual remnants alot more interesting.

"Until the bible was codefied anyone's guess was as good as anyone elses what was what."

and afterward as well, if not moreso.
