Paul McCartney. "Wonderful Christmastime."
Quite possibly one of only two Christmas songs I really, really, really, really loathe (the other being the intolerable "Gramma Got Run Over By A Reindeer").

I can't begin to tell you how much I can't stand this song.

Play almost any other Christmas song and I'm happy. I'm fine.

But not this one.

So...guess what's stuck in my head now after an ill-timed trip to the grocery store for cardmom this evening?

2. yes that is a terrible song indeed
i really wish john had had a different friend back in the day, nothing paul has done post-beatles has been worth the oxygen and much has been as down-on-the-ground awful as any captain and tenille

4. I love that song, but I can sympathize
I like it 'cause it's so catchy, which, I think is also what makes so many people hate it. If you don't like how a song sounds but it's so catchy that it won't get out of your head, it's definitely no fun. It's definitely from a strange time in McCartney's solo career: around the time of McCartney II when he was doing these very bare-bones songs with lots of keyboards and synth; I guess it was his response to the '80's. I like some of the stuff from this era, but I definitely like his self-titled debut more than McCartney II. But I like solo McCartney and Wings a lot in general.

I think the Xmas song that annoys me that most is "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." I'm kinda sick of "Grandma..." too, but I used to like it when I was a kid.

And I still can't get that blasted song out of my head.

ON EDIT: They say if you sing a song out loud, you can "kill the earworm". So here's the video to sing along to:

13. BOTH popular ex-Beatle Christmas songs suck boar balls.
"Happy Christmas (The War is Over)" is a depressing rotten pile of steer carcasses as well. It's such a goddamned bummer to listen to; sounds like something you'd play at a memorial service.

Proof that not everything they touched turned to gold.

14. I feel your pain.
It is my goal each year to get through the season without hearing 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer".

Some years I'm successful. Some not.

Doin' good this year so far.

15. I disagree...
..."Wonderful Christmastime" has never been as loathsome as "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". Both have been eclipsed by the truly atrocious "Christmas Shoes" song.

There are some Christmas songs I don't like to listen to because they are played over and over again, but that particular song I've disliked from the word go.

As per my other post, I hate that Christmas Shoes song with every fiber of my being... I've been accused of being an insensitive lout for my lack of moist eyes every time it fouls the airwaves (which is pretty much non-stop from Thanksgiving to Christmas)...

36. Man, but they played the bejeebums out of it here...
a couple of years ago. Literally, it was about every 5th song in rotation.

What's worse, is I called the station and requested that they PLEASE play something else. I was working in New Orleans those days, so I specifically requested "Christmas Time in New Orleans" and got a big, fat no.

No to Louis Armstrong, but a resounding yes for dead christmas shoes?????

the McCartney one is annoying enough but I give Sir Paul a pass because of his work with the Beatles. But the "dead Christmas shoes song" is just awful...it actually makes me angry just to listen to it

That having been said, that Paul McCartney synth piece is an extraordinarily stinky turd of a song. It's like he and Mike Love are engaged in a life-long "bigger liability to one's band" competition.

I think Paul was smoking some really bad dope when he wrote his tune.

Several years ago I worked at a store for Christmas. It was on their frequent rotation. First, I loathed it. Then I learned to live with it. Eventually, I grew to like it. Don't fight it. It will all be ok.
