As much as I enjoy being single there are times....
(like tonight) where nothing sounds better than curling up in bed with another warm body and relaxing. I think it's the crushing headache I'm currently experiencing - something about not feeling good always makes me want to snuggle up in bed with someone.

Is that weird?

1. No. I often feel the same way.
Life is about people. Not things. Assuming one's development wasn't impared, of course... some are bright enough to recognize they are dim...

18. I used to have a roomate (Dave) -
that would rub my head for HOURS - often well past the time I'd fallen asleep. Sometimes I really miss him. :D That said - I was GLAD to seem him go. He made me crazy for 2 years - to the point of HATE. Almost 6 years later we're (I'M) able to be friends again - but state between us is what allowed us to get back to that point.

Anyway - you just reminded me of that one thing I miss most about him. :)

44. Oh man, I melt in the heat
I gotta be fair, a lot of people complain about the cold, but I can't stand hot weather. I figure you can always put on warmer clothes, but if you're hot, there's only so much you can take off.

For example, it's 32 outside right now and I'm sitting 8 feet from an open window because I think it's too hot inside. I've got some problem with my internal thermostat. It's set about 10 degrees too high all the time.

It was about 90 degrees today, so I stupidly wore a light skirt and sandals. Now the sun has gone down and the air conditioner has been running all day.

My toes and fingers are literally blue.

12. Well you see...
...I seem to have this problem. Men that want me aren't usually the men I want. Strange, but true.

For example - men that LOVE me are usually some combination of the following: Needy, insecure, emotional problems, passive aggressive, NUTS, stalkers, weak-minded, non-political, etc.

Men I LIKE - kind, compassionate, politically minded, extemely intelligent, open minded, courteous, confident, etc....

I'm not picky about things people are normally picky about - yet extremely picky about things that other people don't often think about.

Of course the above is just the tip of the iceburg - but it's an example.

Much older men usually like me too - always have.

You have your standards so why settle for less.
After your last (stalker) I can see why you are so picky..And you should be.
Maybe you are attractive to older men because of your maturity?
You have a very good head on your shoulders i have noticed.
Well anyway..Everyone desires the warmth of another at times..It's part of feeling alive.

15. Vicodin tends to keep me up all night -
so while I appreciate the sentiment.... no thank you. :)

I have percocet, vicodin, and morphine and my disposal right now in the med cabinet, but tylenol 3 would be my choice if I had any. Percocet makes me puke (it gives me the spins) and morphine is "too much" for the headache.

Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 09:59 PM by oktoberain
and I agree--the strong stuff is a little too much unless the pain is unbearable. I keep mine around in case anything serious should ever happen that would require a painkiller of that level.

That being said, I wish I had some Percocet! It works great for me, unlike the Lortab that the docs gave me for kidney stones a few weeks ago. I hate that stuff--it gives me headaches and makes me jumpy and nervous. I hate anything with hydrocodone in it. :/

Edited for spelling errors.

20. I have fibromyalgia -
Fibromyalgia, from what I can tell is simply code for "We have no FUCKING idea why you're in excruciating pain, we just know it's not mental." I was given a largish bottle of morphine from a friend during one of the extremely bad cycles - and I have to be ready to DIE from pain before I'll take any of those.

My doctor has been very good about basically giving me anything I want - based on my history he can tell I rarely take anything and usually have the pills expire before I get through a prescription of 10 pills. LATELY however, he hasn't responded to my (2) requests for a refill of Tylenol 3. Small town clinic always packed - I suspect he's been busy and keeps forgetting about me. I was just thinking yesterday in fact that I may need to just schedule a face-to-face and get my scripts all refilled and updated.

27. I live in a med-school city
and the doctors here are really miserly with pain meds. It's hard to get a prescription for anything stronger than Motrin around here. Last year I spent almost a month in the hospital because of a gallbladder infection, and I had to fight for every single bit of pain medication that I got. And that was with something *proven* and painful. It's nearly impossible to get pain meds for anything other than a life-threatening condition in this city, grrr. I think because it's a med-school city, they're extra-sensitive to getting stalked by the FDA for over-prescribing narcotics.

About your fibromyalgia--I've been wondering what was wrong with me. Do these symptoms sound familiar?

-Extreme joint pain
"Tender spots" (for example, I can't tolerate anyone touching my ribs, even gently. It's awful)
Achiness and pain that wake me up every morning
Pain beyond the normal--for example, if someone pokes my shoulder, it's nearly enough to make me cry

I've been wondering about this for months, but I haven't had the nerve to say anything to my docs yet. The last time I did, they treated me like I was psychotic and imagining it all. :(

31. YES -
That's EXACTLY what Fibromyalgia is like - but there's more. And it changes - and shifts - and varies in intensity from time to time.

I can remember times 6 or 7 years ago when I had a roomate - I'd be sitting in the recliner trying not to move and he'd get up to walk past me to go into the kitchen. The vibration from him walking (wood floors) would make the recliner shake and it about killed me. And it was just barely moving - but it was enough. Other times if someone laid a hand on me I would just about scream.

The other thing that goes along with it - and especially does for me is fatigue. There are days I just can't get anything done because I have NO energy. That's probably what I struggle with the most. I'm used to pain and am used to blocking it out - but when you have no get up and go? It's hard.

But yes - the tender spots is a huge indicator. Sometimes I describe it as feeling like these spots all over my body feel like they're bruised and someone is grinding a knuckle into them. It's really hard to explain to someone that hasn't experienced it - mainly because IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

34. Omg YES!
That's exactly it! Oh god, I thought I was crazy...

There are times when I can't even tolerate my partner being in the same bed as me, because even the slightest little movement can set off the pain. Have you ever had the flu--REAL influenza? It's like that most of the time, with some spots worse than others. I could cry if someone touches my neck, shoulders, ribs, hips, or knees. It's just pure agony, and I have no idea why. :(

I've also been having a lot of gastrointestinal problems lately--chronic pain whenever I eat, pain in my belly in general, and the CT scans are showing NOTHING wrong. I don't understand it at ALL. Ugh. I've been living with this for SO long...

39. You're not crazy.
And the areas you're describing as painful are the prime places used to diagnose Fibromyalgia.

One thing I found - before being diagnosed with it - when researching a whole bunch of other issues I used to have was that I appear to have a problem w/ Yeast. Do some research into Candida as well. I went on the MAJOR diet for yeast (nothing w/ yeast in it, NO sugar, very limited dairy (because it didn't seem to affect me as much I didn't cut it out totally), no vinegar, etc. That's what got me on my feet again after bottoming out. Before doing that I had major gastrointestinal troubles as well - and LOTS of gas. And no - not the kind you can pass but the kind that bloats you into a huge pig and is painful. I didn't have pain when I ate or anything like that though.

I've found that Fibromyalgia, Candida, and Chronic Fatigue all seem to be closely related to one another, and it's very common to have all three issues if you have one.

It totally sucks - and it's worse because you don't *look* sick - so people don't take you seriously or they think you're lazy and crazy.

Unfortunately you'll probably have to live with it for the rest of your life - but it DOES get better. I haven't been as sensitive as you are right now in a long time. It may cycle back to that point in the future, but thankfully it hasn't done that for awhile. I used to literally cry if someone brushed my spine. It hurt SOOO bad. I've been more tolerant of that for awhile. The pain is ALWAYS there - it just changes in degree.

Another interesting thing - I've been having what I thought were panic attacks. Always at night, and always when I've gone to bed to watch tv before sleep. I get shooting pain all up and down my left side and it seriously feels like I am going to have a heart attack. It's scary as hell, and so horribly painful if I even feel it starting I start bawling because I know what's coming. I had an echocardiogram and a bunch of other tests and they couldn't find anything wrong with my heart. My doctor said he feels that it is occurring from the fibromyalgia, and that it's on the left side because the pain starts there and travels up and down my body. I have a script for anti-anxiety meds which I am to take w/ prescription strength alleve when that starts to come on. Anyway - I couldn't find my anxiety meds when one was coming on a couple of months ago which automatically makes me panic because I know what's coming and in desperation I remembered what the doctor said regarding his opinion that the chest pain is being created by the fibromyalgia. I had some Tylenol 3 left so I took one - still apprehensive because I was so scared I was going to have one of those attack things. Imagine my surprise when the Tylenol 3 took care of the pain AND the panic attack. Now I think I'm not having panic attacks at all - I'm having the worst fucking pain you could ever imagine in your life and it's SCARY - different from a panic attack.

If you have any questions you may feel free to PM me -- for now, I need to finish taking care of the pets and go to bed so I can sleep off this headache.

One small positive thing is you are definitely not alone! There are a lot of us out there! Take care, and good night!

45. It's not even a little bit weird. Even though
my husband and I are getting a divorce, we have agreed to hug one another regularly because we are both so sad and miserable. Nothing but the hug takes away the heavy feeling. It's funny though - the response to a hug must be very innate. I had a cuddly slow dance with a near-stranger last weekend and it had the same effect. Being held feels very nice.
