Help!!!! Any electricians out there??
I need help. For some reason today, the electricity was knocked out. Well, after 2 hours, the electric company finally got it back on. But there two outlets in my kitchen that don't work. One for my refrigerator. But luckily, I ran extension cord to another outlet and it works. I've tried flipping all the switches on the power box, but still can't get power into those outlets. How do I fix this? It used to be that you could just replace a fuse, but I can't see any way to do this. I live in a mobile home if that is any help.

1. Is that the ONLY power box?
Sometimes there are two...one for regular outlets and one for larger appliances. Did you try plugging something else into the wall where the fridge is plugged in to make sure it is the power and not the fridge itself?

5. No. Only one power box. It's not the refrigerator.
Cause I got an extension cord and plugged it into another outlet and refrigerator works fine. Microwave is out also, but if I plug it into another outlet with the extension, it works also.

6. You've lost an entire circuit.
Bad fuse or breaker.

19. How do I replace a breaker in the power box?
I have the feeling that could be the problem.

8. Not the refrigerator.
I plugged the refrigerator into another outlet and it works. But tried plugging another appliance into where the refrigerator was and it did not work.

2. almost for certain
there are more switches to flick or there are
replaceable fuses you haven't found yet.
Keep on looking.

3. Fuses, or breakers?
You could have blown a fuse, or you could have blown a Buss bar. Check the fridge itself.

7. Refrigerator works fine when plugged in another outlet.
Where would I find other fuse boxes? I'm clueless.

10. They should be all together.

If you have a switch type panel, sometime they can trip but they don't look like they have. There should be a diagram, or notes on the inside door of the electrical panel.

13. Yes, I have that type panel.
And I flipped them all. Nothing seems to be working. It's only in one section of the kitchen where my refrigerator and my microwave are plugged in.

11. Closets.
It seems to be the preferred place for them in mobile homes. :)

18. Closet, thanks, didn't think of that.
Just check the power box and it says "Data Panel located in closet over water heater." Is that any clue? Because it is going to be hell getting through all those clothes to locate that panel.

9. Any GFI outlets in the kitchen???
You might have tripped one and the fridge might be on the same circuit.

The GFI outlets have two buttons on them marked, "RESET" and "TEST". Hit the "RESET" button.

Or just maybe you have one in the bathroom and the circuit stretches to the kitchen???

12. Okay, I'm not an electrician, but I play one in my house.
It may be any one of a number of things -- it could be

1. the refrigerator itself has some kind of a breaker or reset button that flipped, but I think your post indicated that the refrige is working on an extension cord.

2. the outlets themselves may have a little circuit breaker built into it--it's called a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupt) and you have to push a button in the outlet itself to get it to come back on.

If you have one and it flips, any other outlets connected to the GFCI "downstream" from that outlet and the power source will also go out.

3. I doubt that you have a fuse box. You most likely have a circuit breaker box. You want to find that box and see if any of the circuit breakers are flipped. It is sometimes hard to see if they are flipped. Usually what I do is just flip all the breakers (one at a time) to "off" and then back to "on."

Good luck.

16.  Thanks for your help.
Yes, I have flipped everything in the circuit box and nothing seems to work. Well, if I can't get it to work, at least I have the extension cord. I'll just go back and try flipping some more switches.

17. Look for a small fuse box with old fashioned screw out fuses
I'll bet it's there somewhere.

14. Ever heard of GFI?
Ground Fault Interupter. In the last 20yrs or so, the National Electric Code requires protected circuits in kitchens, bathrooms and garages. I ain't no "sparky" but maybe you have a GFI circuit that needs to be reset. Look for a little button on one of your outlets in the effected areas.

21. This is good advice:
It's important to point out that the GFI outlet might not be anywhere near the affected area, but might still be part of that incomplete circuit.

We've got a GFI on the ceiling in the basement (don't ask); if it's not closed, the porch light doesn't work.

Really. :)

20. Thank you all for your help.
Nothing seems to be working. I'm going to call my son and if I am lucky, maybe he can solve the problem, but he won't be able to get here until next weekend. Well, in the meantime, the extension cords are working out. At least my food won't spoil in the refrigerator.
