A Lesbian Therapist is moving
I wasn't going to say anything, but I helped load a few things in her car and trailer today. She was here for 5 months, and I grew to like her very much.

She was terminated a few weeks ago. I believe she is a caring, intelligent person who was discharged because this is a small, conservative town and they couldn't handle having a lesbian therapist.

I'm going to miss her.

She is going to California to be with friends.

Even though you don't know her, please send her good wishes and thoughts.

It makes me sick that a good person can still be run out of town because of her personal choices.

1. That sucks....
It's one of things that really bothers me about life in the "land of the free". A lot of people say "I don't care what people do in the privacy of their bedroom" but they don't really mean it.

Here's hoping she gets a great job in a community that appreciates her.

3. Thanks for those nice thoughts
and you are completely correct. People say things, but when it comes to becoming part of their life, their words crumble into just that - words. It is sad and disheartening.

I almost didn't go over there to help load because of watching football games, but felt I had to without feeling a part of the bastards that caused this to happen in the first place.

2. Did they know she was a lesbian before she took the job?
Is it folks in the office? Or was she terminated because people in town just won't see her?

4. Mostly folks in town
once the word went around, she was branded. There were many that didn't care, but there were some that were very vocal that did not like it.

Remember - small town.

For God's (or diety of choice's) sake, I had a lesbian babysitter as a kid even and I'm about as strait as they come. What are people so damned afraid of?
Freakin' morans! :grr:

7. Yes, she'll do well here in CA
There's lot of us Lesbians out here and believe me, we need all the therapy we can get - lol. I would like to make a correction though - only imho - it's not a personal choice - we are born that way.

9. The choice thing in my statement
was in relation to saying "for God's sake" in order to add a preference for worship if one does not worship God. Nothing to do with a belief that we choose our sexual orientation. I completely agree that we are born who we are. I don't know if you were referring to me or the original poster, but since I don't want to be perceived in anyway as some lame-oid homophobe, I thought I'd add this. :)

10. Sad thing for the town
ten to one there are people who would have benefited over time from her professional services... including those who made her continuing to work in the town difficult. I believe that often those who do the discriminating end up hurting themselves in the long-run by lost benefits from the person(s) being discriminated against. It also prolongs the length of time before the folks in the town are forced to grow.

I wish this woman well, hope she heals from the trauma quickly and that she lands on her feet in a big way.
