Saw Lawrence of Arabia in the theatre last night
Man, they just can't make good movies anymore can they? I'm waiting for when they make a crappy remake of it.

1. Wow
There are just some films that are meant to be seen on the Big Screen...that's one of 'em. Loses something on tee vee, I think.

2. I saw the remastered version on a huge screen in London...
...a few years ago. It was spectacular. Such beautiful filmmaking.

Any remake will no doubt have Keanu Reeves as Lawrence, be almost entirely CGI, and have a soundtrack by Britney Spears.

13. You're going to hell for putting that in writing.
But you're right. That's what would happen or worse. Brad Pitt is another gruesome possibility.

3. Lawrence of Arabia
was one of the first films I saw in a theater when it came out in, as I remember, 1962. My mom wanted to see it and took me. All I remembered of it was the desert scenes. It was re-released to theaters in the summer of 1972 or 73 and we went to see it again. I was in college by then and when I found that mom had Seven Pillars of Wisdom in her library, I wentn home and stayed up all night reading it. Thus began my love for T.E. Lawrence. I bought my first VCR for the express purpose of owning 3 films - Patton, Lawrence of Arabia and Destination Tokyo. I have owned 4 copies of LoA - a regular VHS tape, a deluxe VHS tape, a regular DVD and the deluxe restored DVD. Now that my husband and I have a large screen HD TV, LoA looks pretty good on it. If you have not read Lawrence's analysis of the British situation in Iraq, you should. Change a few names and it could be a situation report from a day or so ago.

Go see Hidalgo.

Well, not really a remake, but it's crappy.

7. It was a fantastic movie. And it was made all the better by
Peter O'Toole playing Lawrence.

8. My favorite scene ...
... is when Omar Sharif is approaching from a great distance, and makes his initial dramatic entrance. I first saw Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen in a historic local theatre, maybe ten years ago. Quite a film.

9. When I think about democratic rule in Iraq ...
I think about the end of the movie when all the different tribal groups are together in that conference, and they all start fighting with each other, then one group gets up and takes off and ....

Nothing much has changed in about 70 years.

10. It was an amazing movie.
LOA died from a motorcycle accident back in England. Goes through all of that and gets killed on a bike. Go figure.

It's a movie I've never seen. I'd like to see it on the big screen.

12. That's the only way it can be truly enjoyed.
Did you have to get an extra large soft drink during intermission? :)
