Just took my dog to the vet
She's got a skin infection, and that's why her hair is falling out around her butt.

She's on Prednisone for the itching, and Cephalexin for the infection. My poor baby. I feel like such a bad mommy.

She also got her rabies vaccination and her nails trimmed.

3. Poor little sweetie
She will heal up quickly. I had a female dog that was allergic to flea bites and she would lose all the hair on her belly :-(.

Just watch the Prednisone. It will make her thirstier and she will need to go out more often.

A hug for your little girl and an Arf from Cindy and Murphy.

7. Don't beat yourself up! Jessiekins was just on Prednisone for
allergies. She had been licking and chewing her paws for weeks and all I did was yell at her to cut it out. When they stated getting all raw and bloody was when I finally took her in. We're not always perfect. :loveya:

9. My suggestion ...
If her medicines are in pill form, wrap them in delicious cheddar cheese.

Hey, that always makes me happy to be sick. :P

13. I don't have to.
Cheese makes her throw up. Though I could use peanut butter or something.

But luckily, she loves pills and eats 'em like they're a treat or something. :P

12. Very common
Is she a Lab by any chance? Or a Golden? The prednisone should clear it up and you're NOT a bad mommy. You're a good mommy - you're taking care of her needs.

17. Oh, she's so cute
:loveya: I so miss having a dog.

Yeah, I used to work for one of my best friends who is a vet and she treated a lot of dogs with the same condition. Flea allergic dermatitis. Seemed to crop up a lot in Labs and Goldens for whatever reason.

I'm glad she's feeling better. Uncontrolled itching and dry skin is awful. I've had problems with it myself!

19. You are taking care of her.
That's a GOOD mommy. You can't control the universe - no mommy can. You're doing
a great job. She's lucky to have you.
Better to learn this lesson with a dog than a child. There is no perfect mommy.
She's beautiful, BTW. :D

25. Of course you do.
That's what being a good mom is all about. Empathy. Concern. Responsibility.
You're a GREAT mom.
It's a hard job, hon. That's why it needs to be a CHOICE.
Love to you and your sick baby!

20. Be careful about how long you keep her on the prednisone
It can cause hair loss by itself.

After flea allergy, the biggest offender is food allergy...ground yellow corn being #1, wheat #2 and soy #3. Involvement of 'ears and rears', licking and chewing paws are some of the food symptoms.

Read the ingredients on your food. If it's got a lot of grain, especially the corn, find another food. Switch slowly and don't expect results until the dog has eaten at least its own weight of the new food alone. Having gone through this, I know what a difference the food can make.

Foods without grains ARE more expensive. But they are usually denser and the dog will need less. You'll have less cleanup to do and the savings you'll get from not needing the vet and meds so often will more than make up for the increased price of food.

23. Yeah, they only gave her six tabs
and told me to taper off gradually.

And I feed her Purina ProCare. They're pretty good about that.
