My heart is breaking-Sad Kitty news
Edited on Thu Oct-19-06 12:17 PM by Liberalynn
We took Cally to be spayed this morning at a local shelter and to get her shots. They tested her for feline lukemia and she tested postive. They euthanized her as I had given them persmission to do so, if she tested positive.

Now I am so worried for the others.

I have become so attached. I didn't even make a big deal out of saying goodbye when I left Cally because I was sure she would be okay.

I didn't even get to have her for a year. I know she was just a feral kitty but I had grown to love her a lot and I am going to miss her.

I feel like I let her down because she trusted me. The man at the shelter said I did the right thing but I don't know. It is so hard to accept she is gone now. I didn't want her to suffer though.

2. I'm so sorry Liberalynn...
 You didn't let her down, you saved her from a lot of pain and suffering. That isn't going to make it feel any better, but you did the right thing for her. My heart is breaking too. :(

7. I'm sorry.
I've lost two cats and a bird so I know how you feel. I still miss them.
Had to put down the one cat, the other got stolen and a neighbor's cat killed my daughter's parakeet. You did the right thing but it sure is hard getting over it. That little lump of purring fur with wide eyes trusting you. Hugs.

9. Oh no...I'm so sorry...
 Having just lost my sweet Waffles on Tuesday, I'm still tender from the loss, myself.

But we had a dear kitty die from feine leukemia years ago...when they'd just come out with a vaccine for it. It was horrible...we kept hoping he'd get better. You did the right thing, Liberalynn...:hug::hug:

10. You did the right thing
We lost a kitty years ago to feline leukemia. He was so sick and I fed him with a syringe hoping he would improve. There were no blood tests for it back then. Finally, the vet told me he just wouldn't get better. It's so hard when you do the best you can and the outcome still isn't good enough.

Take care.

11. I'm so sorry, Liberalynn...
 That's so tragic. But you did the right thing. From what I understand, feline leukemia is just horrible on cats. I know what you mean about not really getting to say goodbye---that happened with one of my dogs. :( But your kitty won't suffer now.

As you said, I hope your other kitty cats are OK.

One more thing...please don't feel badly about not saying good-bye. A close friend and ex-roommate of mine said it is horrible for the animals, when they sense it, when the pet owners want to be in the room with the pet when euthanized. She told me, she wished so much that people would just believe her when she tells them not be in the room.

15. for cally...
Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.
