Another Highway Patrol/State Trooper question:
The other was helpful, so what the heck.

Q: If I'm on a 50cc scooter, and the regulations say to stay as far to the right as possible, does that include the shoulder? Meaning, if the road has a shoulder, should I be using it, or should I stay off of it?

1. I would think that it means to stay as far to the right as possible
within the marked off area of the road. However, when it comes to arguing with a vehicle I would let them have the right of way, not because they deserve it but, because what is a fender bender for them could cost me my life!!

3. Thanks. Well, what I do is try to stay as far to the right of the main
road as possible. The shoulder has too much debris, plus the drainage areas and whatnot. I just wonder if it is technically illegal for me to spend a lengthy period of time actually riding on it - or, whether I should be (which I doubt, of course).

2. A 50cc scooter Should Not be traveling on the shoulder of the roadway.

Stay on the road if you want to avoid getting a ticket.

4. OK, thanks. That's what I do, except to allow vehicles to pass, but I
think I'll modify that part, if it is going to get me a ticket.

5. I did have a Honda Scooter so I do know how you feel.

If you are traveling the posted speed limit you shouldn't need to pull over.

However if you do perhaps you might want to think about it this way: There is a difference in riding on the shoulder and stopping on it. I believe that may be the fine-line which might be ticketable.

6. Not always the posted speed limit. I'm legal on everything except limited
access highways like interstates, but there's no way I can keep up on many of the roads.
