Counting Our Blessings
During my un-censored bitch-fest last night I promised to make up for it by inviting us all to count our blessings.

I’ll start.

I married Mr. rbnyc.

I have a great family, including my awesome, liberal, open-minded, generous, and talented mother, DU’s own flama.

I have amazing friends, including my very best friend of over 15 years, Amy, all my friends from Knox College, all my friends from work and from NYC and Brooklyn’s music scene, and my truly wonderful and important friends at DU.

I have 3 kitties, Jones, Bevy, and Elliot.

I have enough money to go Christmas shopping for my husband and his family whom we’ll be visiting next week.

I can walk well enough to go Christmas shopping. I don’t need a wheelchair. I don’t have to worry about the accessibility of the stores.

Our landlords renewed our lease so I know, as long as the building doesn’t blow up or fall down, that I have a place to live for at least another year.

I love my jobs. I know that the work I do is important and that it really does help people in a meaningful way. (I love working for non-profits!)

I wrote a new song.

There are millions more, but now I’m going to go shopping.

Please, list anything you’re grateful for in this thread. I’ll be so curious to see what you have to say when I get back.

And also, thanks for last night.

1. Blessings from Big McLargehuge
My wife and son Mrs. McLargehuge and Ian Manuel Arthur McLargehuge who improve every day simply by existing.

I still have my job, thought it's still a crappy job, but I am scraping by.

My car is running perfectly (though typing that probably jynxed it)

I have been writing like a madman for www.horrorview.com and my writing is generally well liked.

I have several ideas for new short stories and novels (all I need a lottery hit to buy the time I need to write them).

I am healthy.

I am improving my Hapkido skills a little more every week.

My dual processor G4 Mac is my dream machine and I got it only a couple of months ago.

My brother's restaurant is incredibly successful.

2. Cool website.
I haven't gone shopping yet. I can't get out of the Lounge!

I will spend more time checking out that website for sure!

Thanks for the list. I knocked wood for your car.

3. Great idea...
I've been a little whiny because my best friend isn't going back to our hometown for xmas this year so I won't have everyone I love in once place. Instead I should count myself lucky that they're all still here this year and that I'll get to see them all - even if it isn't on xmas day.

I'm lucky. In mid-January my best friend and I will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the day we met.

My little brother and sister-in-law and 4 year old nephew are coming to Texas for xmas. I'm gonna get to help teach the nephew to ride his new bike that Santa is bringing him. :-)

I have a job that challenges my mind. I make enough money to get by and have a little extra to play. I live in a liberal city where I'm hardly considered the slightest bit odd. My best friend lives right down the street from me.

Finally, I opened myself up and met a ton of interesting and wonderful new people this year...many of them from right here at DU. I'd start listing but I'd leave someone out and I'd hate to hurt anyone's feelings. Heck, there are over 38,000 decent, compassionate, funny, intelligent, articulate, passionately committed people on this board and if the small sample I've met is any indication then every last one of you ROCKS!

Having a job that you can live with is a really good thing!

And teaching your nephew how to ride a bike rules!

23. Before you open this post, guess what's first on the list.
I'm the mother of the most wonderful woman in the whole, wide world.

She married Mr. rbnyc.

Furry Murray loves me more than I deserve (most of the time).

Bruce, the dog, is still healthy. He's a little rickety and forgets things, but he's almost 13.

I'm still healthy. I'm a little rickety and forget things, but can order from the Senior menu at Bob Evans and Denny's.

My new old car runs like a top and gets between 24 and 27 mpg, depending on red lights and good songs playing on WMNF when it's time to shut it off.

My temp job pays enough to pay the bills and looks as if it will last through January.

The bills are all paid! And there's still a little money left before the next round.

Your Christmas presents should be delivered before Christmas.

My satellite TV provider doesn't have ABC on the menu. (If they did, I'd have to boycott until they cover Kucinich's campaign.)

The five inches of rain we had this week wasn't snow. Sarasota isn't ever supposed to have 50 inches of snow. That's Buffalo's job.

I got a chance to talk to the guy in the truck with the "Let's not elect him in 2004 either" bumper sticker Wednesday night.

You gave me the URL for DU.

There are dishes to do and laundry to fold. Guess I'm grateful for that, too. Clothes and running water are good things. But it means I have to go.

I'll keep counting my blessings and come back with the good ones - and maybe the strange ones, too.

:loveya:

Ma

which last January looked like an impossibility. Our children (7 and 9) get to have her for at least one more Christmas Morning.

Thats more of a blessing than I deserve.
