Favorite Instrumental tunes, any genre
Any genre except Classical, because IMO that warrants its own thread.

1. Hot Butter - Popcorn
2. Giorgio Moroder - THeme from Midnight Express
3. Booker T and the MG's - Green Onions
4. Average White Band - Pick up the pieces
5. Dave Brubeck - Take Five
6. Chantays - Pipeline
7. Link Wray - Rumble
8. Krafterk - Numbers
9. Nelson Riddle - Theme From Route 66
10. The Theme from Monday Night Football (The old school one)

Of course I am neglecting Quincy Jones, Bob James, any number of jazz artists, John Barry James Bond soundtrack tunes, and who knows what else.

His arrangements can better apreciated . I liked him but when I heard him live, I really enjoyed what he was doing. If you get a chance to see his music performed live (obviously by someone else), it's great.

Here are my pics from the rock era:

by Monk. That is my favorite piano piece ever.

But, there's a million jazz & bop things i could name. If you like Take 5, you should listen to Blue Rondo ala Turk by the same band. It's even better than Take Five. (More interesting piano work and a better sax solo.)

57. That's Cool That Bill Knew The Tune
I could sing several Brubeck melodies. I could sing the sax solo from Rondo and Five. I never was influenced much by Brubeck's playing. But, i was influenced by his use of textures and the overall sound of the bands. Always swinging and very "cool". (Hey, maybe that's why they called it "cool jazz." Ya Think?)

I've never seen his band live. I wish i had.

And the Beck version of PPHat *is* always chilling. Saw that tour live at the Fox in St. Louis and although I'm not a huge J. Beck fan, still among my top 5 shows in medium-sized venues.

And call me sick, but I like the comforting thorazine strings and tranqued-out melody of "Theme from 'A Summer Place.'"

69. good topic
I always liked ONE WISH and ANOTHER PLACE by Hiroshima and on the Same Album! I like the Theme from the first Batman Movie. The title credits for Gettysburg were nice. as Far as TV themes go. I always liked ROOM 222, The Waltons, but the Best will always be DALLAS.
