Hey Bay Area DUers!
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 02:02 PM by fudge stripe cookays
I'll be visiting for a week for work. Staying down in San Jose most of that time, but will be coming into SF on Sat 19th to visit the main library on Larkin Street.

arcane1 suggested I post this here too to get some more interest. Anybody up for a drink Saturday afternoon/evening?

3. Where are you staying?
Where are you coming from?
Why the S.F. library? San Jose has a great new library.
Might be able to meetup, depends on where and when. Have suggestions depending on your location here.

4. I'm staying at the Larkspur down in Campbell
I need to find one or two obituaries for SF papers, and I need to try to find a wedding announcement from Palo Alto around 1927.

I've checked quite a few of the libraries around the area (including the one at Stanford), and they either don't have the papers I need, or the facility I need (archives etc) is not open on Saturday. Besides, I only saw a bit of SF back in 92. It'd be nice to see some more.

arcane1 says there's a great spot where the DUers usually meet after protests that sounds like a good "regular hangout" down near the Civic Center.

12. The San Jose Jazz fest is this weekend
It is by far the best thing S.J. does. Stages all over downtown with blues, reggie, jazz, classical, etc. etc. This is a don't miss event, all day Sat & Sun. I have lived Downtown for over 10 yers and this is the only event I'm willing to get out of bed for, with the exception of anti Bush stuff.

16. I'm afraid I"m not much for live music anymore.
I used to be a fiend, out every night of the week seeing somebody play somewhere. Now, I just get too tired too quickly, and I don't like crowds.

But please join us for a drink if you think you can make it...

Just need a when and where.

For what it's worth, my first apartment was three blocks from Fillmore West. I've seen everybody! Janis, Jimmy, Paul Butterfield, Ike and Tina, the Stones, everyone. My last rock concert was Altimont ( I never did find the stage). If I never see a rock concert for the rest of my life, it will be too soon. The San Jose jazz fest is the exception. This event is way too cool. Even jaded Flamenco guituarists like me love this event. Way mello. None of the "spring break" types at this event, just cool people. I beg you to reconsider.

22. Honestly, I'd love to, but...
I don't want to write checks my body can't cash.

I don't have tons of heavy symptoms with my MS, but the one that jumps out and strangles me when I really don't want it to is complete, utter exhaustion. One minute I'll be fine, the next I'm falling over about ready to fall asleep where I stand. My coordination goes, my speech gets slurred, and I can't keep my eyes open.

With me being in unfamiliar territory too, I just really have to watch myself. That's all.

just remember that I'm a newbie. Don't know the area real well. While I would love to make a pilgrimage to the People's Republic, I was hoping we could kind of keep it in that general area where I'm gonna be.

I tend to get tired pretty easily from the MS, and will still have to drive back to the hotel in Campbell afterward.

Very typical SF. I would dig it. Anybody know if they have shirts? reprehensor doesn't let me travel alone unless I bring him cool shirts from where I go.

20. I can get to Campbell
How bout the Elephant bar? I don't spend a lot of time in Campbell so I don't know the "club scene" and frankly, at 56, I don't do clubs anymore. Carrie Nations in Los Gatos? I was kinda thinking Seven in S.J. or Gordon Bierch, but, to welcome a stranger from afar, I'm easy.

31. How did the meetup go? I'm very sorry I couldn't make it :(
I woke up with a tremendous headache yesterday and was hoping I would feel better by evening. I managed to subdue it briefly with some aspirin and thought I might be able to pop into Tommy's Joynt for a bit, but the thing came crashing back with a vengeance and I had to go back home and go back to bed.

I hope you weren't all alone. :( And I hope we'll have the opportunity for another DU meetup sometime soon.

Betty
