The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Sun 8/13/06)
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 07:40 AM by RetroLounge
Stolen Moments

What happened, happened once. So now it’s best
in memory—an orange he sliced: the skin
unbroken, then the knife, the chilled wedge
lifted to my mouth, his mouth, the thin
membrane between us, the exquisite orange,
tongue, orange, my nakedness and his,
the way he pushed me up against the fridge—
Now I get to feel his hands again, the kiss
that didn’t last, but sent some neural twin
flashing wildly through the cortex. Love’s
merciless, the way it travels in
and keeps emitting light. Beside the stove
we ate an orange. And there were purple flowers
on the table. And we still had hours.

Kim Addonizio

4. seduction by assonance/consonance. I need a cigarette now, lol.
starts with soft 'i' words memory/skin/unbroken/chilled/lifted/thin/exquisite/his/fridge/again/kiss/twin

then the big guns, goes for the 'r' words, 'r' is supposed to be one of the prettiest sounds in the english language, the other is 'l';
orange/fridge/neural/cortex/merciless/purple/flowers/hours
and all but one are two syllables, which is even yummier. I love people who write this way. It's total seduction of the ear (really the brain, but it 'sounds' like the ear).

so yummy. thanks.

5. My dear RetroLounge.......
How exquisite this is..........I can truly relate......

So now it’s best in memory—...

Since all I have now are memories......

Love’s
merciless, the way it travels in
and keeps emitting light...

I feel this truth........and its harshness as well........

Thank you

8. I met Kim Addonizio at a reading about 3 years ago.
A friend of mine was reading with her over at Cody's in Berkeley.

Kim's captivating; I loved her 'narrative'. She read from her new (at the time) book, "What Is This Thing Called Love". There's a signed copy of it in my bookshelf. :)
