Poll question: Best Dustin Hoffman Role
Inspired by Best Jodie Foster Role -- these two are my very favorite actors.

I know there are far, far too many to name here. I couldn't even bring myself to put an "other" category. I had to post all the ones that I thought were just awesome.

Please post your favorite if it's not in the poll.

I'm not going to vote; I can't pick one.

3. Marathon Man
he showed totally fear in the "dental" scene. It made me cringe with him. I loved that movie.

8. Yes, I saw that recently again.
After having watched it when it first came out. Now I know why I fear the dentist. Never, ever, ever liked it. Had those steel braces as a kid and talk about misery; even toast crust hurt me after dentist tightened them up with plyers. I first got them around Christmas and couldn't eat cookies either.

5. In a fantastic picture called "Straight Time" about an ex-con.

Paroled criminal Max Dembo (Dustin Hoffman) is compelled to withstand the calculated cruelties of slimy parole officer Earl Frank (M. Emmet Walsh). The more Max tries to go straight, the more he is defeated by circumstance or hectored by the sadistic Frank. It becomes clear after a while that neither Hoffman nor his fellow ex-cons will be able to survive looking for legitimate work. Max is too "far gone" as a human being to succeed at anything other than crime. He goes back to his old thieving ways, inveigling reformed crook Jerry Schue (Harry Dean Stanton) into helping him. A climactic "big caper" goes tragically awry, thanks in great part to the tragic flaws in Max's personality. Based on a novel by Edward Bunker, Straight Time is possibly the most realistic cinematic probe into the sociopathic psyche of the career criminal. Famed theatrical director and instructor Ulu Grosbard directed, with an uncredited assist from star Hoffman; it was their second film together, after Who Is Harry Kellerman And Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?.

12. for my poll, it was between that and Death of a Salesman -- and I liked
him in the latter just a little better. AFAIC he is the best Willy Loman.

Grandfather: Am I still in this world?
Jack Crabb: Yes, Grandfather.
Grandfather: I was afraid of that. Well, sometimes the magic works, sometimes it does not.

Yes, the "black" white man; I have heard of them. It is said that a "black" white man once became a Human Being. They are a very strange creatures. Not as ugly as the white man true; but they are just as crazy!

19. Actually, he wasn't the Midnight Cowboy
He was Ratzo Rizzo. Jon Voight was the Midnight Cowboy. But I vote Ratzo.
