1. Try downloading the VLC media player.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

VLC is all I use now. If VLC can't play it, it probably can't be played.

2. You also should get yourself GSpot
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html

It will tell you exactly what codec(s) you're missing on any given video file.

Pretty indispensable.

4. Thanks;
I went ahead and did that; although if I take the below suggestion I may not need it. We'll see.

3. K-Lite is a pertty all-inclusive set of codecs. It's also possible that
it's just a bad file. It's frustrating. :banghead:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:
- It it always up-to-date with the latest versions of the codecs.
- It is very user-friendly and the installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want.
- It has been very well tested, so that the package doesn't contain any conflicting codecs.
- It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies.
