1. That's beautiful!
I usually see it from the other direction off Highway 52 when hubby and I take a drive. He loves going to Mt. Airy (the town Mayberry was modeled after and Andy Griffith's home town)!

5. I'm at Fancy Gap. Near the intersection of US 52 and the Parkway.
It's just a weekend place but we love every minute there. I can see about a dozen counties in the valley below of the NC foothills.Mouny Airy is "town" when we're there. That and Hillsville and Galax.

6. hmm - was thinking of moving to the area
a while back... need to go visit. Isn't there an enormous quarry in Mt. Airy? Can you tell/does it affect the town?

7. It's a huge granite quarry. Been there for many years. No adverse
effect on the town. They ship some beautiful granite all over the US. Mount Airy is just like "Andy" left it. The original "Mayberry". I highly reccomend it.

10. will check it out soon, I hope
Depending on work projects, we might just buy some land there and settle down in a few years. I used to drive from Asheville up to DC, and would take I-40 to 77, up and over the pass into Virginia, passing Galax, Fancy Gap, etc. That area of Southern VA/NW NC is gorgeous.

8. I used to live there.
In the REAL Mayberry - Dobson, NC, the county seat. Andy was from Mount Airy, on the NC/VA border.
