7. Oh please.
It's easy to use. Yes it'll take a few days to get used to it, but it's a nice change.

6. why have to get used to things
when there is no reason to?

That's what I hate about the legislative process. always pass more laws - always change things -\\

god dammit - it's not for the better

why can't things ever stay the same?

Because the world doesn't stop changing. Sorry!

A faster database is DEFINITELY for the better.

4. give it a chance
Edited on Sun Jul-06-03 07:29 PM by kainah
even if you/we didn't see ANY improvement, there's a very good chance that the administrators and moderators have improved THEIR ability to run the board. And that is important for the overall health of the board, too. It does look and feel strange right now but that will pass. And, hey, I think it's quite cool to see the newest member's name on the latest page.

On edit: A couple of other things that I just noticed which I know I will like. 1) The ability to click on "response to" and find immediately the message to which that person was replying. Especially in long threads, that got hard to do. 2) printer-friendly format! Now that is a GREAT feature. :toast:

5. The underlying database is much more powerful.
We should be able to handle much more traffic. Load times and searches should be faster.

8. of course
that makes sense

but someone in the group needs to have that frame of mind

change is not necessarily good. there needs to be a reason for it.

11. The old software sucked
It was full of bugs and falling apart at the seams. We couldn't handle large traffic, and there were endless headaches with it.

This one is faster, better, more powerful, has many new cool features, and will be easier to maintain and upgrade. I can't think of one single reason to keep the old software, personally.

10. Actually it's a good question
Edited on Sun Jul-06-03 07:36 PM by EarlG
The new message board sits atop a far more powerful database. There should no longer be problems with searching, for example. Load times will be faster.

However, the original version of this software looked very different from the way it looks now. We spent a long, long time making it look as close to the old DU message board as possible. The idea was to make the change as smooth as possible for DUers who are used to the way the message board looks and behaves.

So the fact that you're having a hard time telling the difference is actually a compliment. We deliberately made it that way. However, if you look around you'll find that aside from the biggest change - the software running the message board, which you can't see - there are quite a few new features.

Thanks,
EG

14. lol
I was wondering when the first :wtf: we overhyped the shit out of something we don't understand all by ourselves and I feel ripped off by not getting a completely new experience.

You should really listen to yourself sometimes.

20. Have you read the numerous Admin posts in this very topic?
The old software was crap, falling apart, way too decrepit and slow to grasp new things. That was the reason for the change.

It was NOT for no reason at all.
