RANT: Get a fucking life for YOURSELF, and ENJOY it, dammit!
Gripe. Moan. Bitch. Whine. Complain. Grumble. Worry. Mrs Kravitz. Meddle. Nit-pick. Criticize. Bellyache. --- Good grief... does it ever end?

I sometimes wonder if the folks who complain the loudest (about the most insignificant things) are actually HAPPY that they have something to complain about. It's not just on the Internets... it's the real-life everyday folks too, your neighbors, your relatives, and maybe even you.

There are many would have you believe that they know all the answers and that they have all the solutions to make everything better. But if the utopia they visualize ever became reality... I wonder if they would STILL manage to find SOMETHING to complain about. How would their lives feel complete? How would they occupy their time?

Is it perfection that they seek, or is it control? Do they want to make other people's lives better, or do they just want to appear to be superior?

I suppose it's one thing for idle folks to vicariously enjoy the happy and exciting moments of other people's lives... but it's quite another (and something that I don't fully understand) when idle people *only* find pleasure by keeping a constant and watchful eye on, and worrying about what OTHER people are doing.

It's astounding to realize the number of people whose sole purpose in life is to vigilantly nitpick and fault-find others for what they perceive to be great personal injustices. I suppose it gives their lives some sense of purpose, but I can't figure out why they appear to be so resentful that others aren't as "perfect" as they think themselves to be.

I imagine that many of them have a grand sense of entitlement, combined with an inability to deal with ordinary everyday disappointments. That combination drives them to the extremes of feeling the need to control everyone ELSE'S life.

To those folks, I recommend that they chill out... get a life of their own. Learn to make the most of their OWN life (rather than worrying about someone else's.) They need to learn to take control of their OWN life (rather than trying to control others.) And they need to to just ENJOY their own life (rather than trying to make MISERABLE the lives of others.)

So please forgive me and allow me the luxury of griping, moaning, bitching and criticizing those folks who do NOTHING BUT. I hope they are listening and will consider my unsolicited advice: Get a life! Live and let live! Smile, dammit! :hi:

2. Of course they're happy to have something to complain about
All of us have a bit of this. Nietzsche analyzed it well: resentiment, and, like you, he called it the hatred of life.

I think the lack of interesting hobbies, feelings of emptiness and lack of purpose may be at work in those people.

I run into a few folks like that on a regular basis. Nothing is ever good enough. Never happy. Perpetually sad.

27. Ziggy says:
"Learn to laugh at your troubles
everybody else does."

What's the point to griping about personal problems? Sometimes other people can and will help. Sometimes they can give you the perspective of somebody who has been there and survived and thrived. Sometimes it might help to know that people care and will offer an encouraging word or well wishes even if they cannot do anything tangible. So I offer you this word: foster. Use it wisely.

9. Isn't that part of being progressive?
To always be moving forward and to find better ways to do things to benefit even more people? We identify things that need improvement, and then suggest ways to improve them, then try and implement them. I don't think it's perfection or control, but for the most part just wanting to make people's lives better.

For the most part the 'ranting' is limited it seems to two areas. The first is things that affect everyone (for instance 'smoking in a movie theater') where they complain about how one person's action has a direct consequence on their own quality of life. I wouldn't necessarily consider this automatically insignificant (though it can often be). The other rants tend to be about children ('they let their 2 year old free climb el kapitan') and people who endanger children.

Personally I tend not to get too bent out of shape about any of that stuff. I'm more worried about how to pay all the bills, and making sure I have enough time for my family. I don't honestly have time to care about how my neighbor doesn't cut his hedges correctly or washes his car too much.

28. apparently my city cares
I got a letter on Thursday saying that I needed to trim my trees or face misdemeanor charges. Apparently ten feet of clearance is not enough for an alley. So now I am going to take my camera around town and gather evidence of other people's trees which are impinging on alleys, streets and sidewalks. If they are still there a month later I will then go searching for a lawyer to ask the city why these codes only apply to me.

Ah, the joys of civilisation. Plus, I spent about 3 hours clear-cutting the trees back there.

I tend to be a libertarian on safety issues. People should have the right to endanger themselves and their children. It's not my business until they endanger me or my relatives.

10. Who's trying to control you or your life?
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 12:02 PM by HypnoToad
Very sage advice on your part; a good read. But if you're sincere, you'll find those you're talking about and give them more than just vague catchphrases. When I give people advice, I give them more than "Do this". Some people need to be told how. Kinda silly to be compassionate yet not assist in helping people to be compassionate on their own.

And thanks for griping. You are entitled.

Just so long as you're not talking about me! :spray:

11. some people define themselves by what they whine about
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 12:23 PM by Beaverhausen
They wouldn't know how to be happy if things improved in their lives. In fact, when good things happen they can't even process that it is good and they find something to complain about.

In the last few years I have met several people who have diseases like MD, MS, Lieukemia, Cancer, Fibromyalgia, etc. These people have taught me that I have NO PROBLEMS and I have nothing to whine about. It's a good lesson to learn.

26. Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life...
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 02:26 PM by arwalden
http://www.soundclick.com/util/streamm3u.m3u?id=720675&q=lo

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

23. I know a couple of people like you describe, and...
they can't help how they are. And they are in a lot of pain (emotional). I'm sure they would change if they could, but fate seems to have decided that they must suffer.

I will forgive as best I can, and try to love them anyway.

33. You don't want to read this:

http://www.gay.com/news/roundups/package.html?sernum=1604

April 15 -- tax day -- was notable for what Charles Merrill didn't do.

For the second year in a row, the Edneyville, N.C., resident and his partner, Kevin Boyle, neither filed nor paid federal taxes.

Their personal tax revolt is in protest of the federal government's treatment of same-sex couples, who cannot take advantage of more than 1,000 tax and economic advantages available to married heterosexuals.
