varieties of fatherhood - for Eric
I got a Father's Day card yesterday - from Christopher's birthfather. I just left a message on his cell phone, and I hope his card got there in time, too.

Sometimes dads disappear - a lot of my kids at school have never known theirs - but sometimes a young man involved in an unplanned pregnancy will not only stick with his lover, but also have the courage and strength to help plan, and follow through with, an adoption. Eric, you're a mensch. Thank you, from both Christopher and myself.

1. You have been given 2 gifts to cherish..
Your son, a precious gift. The gift of knowing the heart of a young man who did the right thing.

Happy Father's Day to you and to Eric.

3. What a beautiful Father's Day gift!
My biological father wasn't such a standup guy, but I lucked into a wonderful adoptive father (like you are to Christopher). I think it's absolutely wonderful that you have this relationship with your child's biological father; your child will profit from it.

Happy Father's Day, my friend. :pals:

5. I dunno if I'd ever told you about that.
I was six years old, and my adoptive father had just returned from a tour of Vietnam (1969) and found himself the father of two girls, 6 and 5. He was 25 years old. It could not have been easy for him and my mom, but I couldn't have asked for better parents. Hey, my daddy's the one who introduced me to the A & W drive-in in Claremore. ;)

8. Oh how cool
I think it is wonderful that birth parents are part of adopted children's lives. How neat that you are accepting of his presence.

13. I talked to him a little while ago.
The card got there in time (yay!). I think he's still a little unsure what our relationship is, but it's all good. They're good folks.
