Old ink redone
Edited on Fri Jun-16-06 03:00 AM by Joan_Alpern
This was originally done in 1999

This is the way it looks now 12 hours after being recolored.

1. That is so pretty looking :)
I want a tattoo on my lower back of a Phoenix rising because I see myself as a phoenix in some ways.

2. I was asking about the intensity of pain for various areas on the body.
Today's tattooist said "All of the back is a painful area to have tattooed."

I wasn't planning a new tattoo while I was on vacation in the Keys two weeks ago but here it is ~

4. Neither my lower back or base of neck hurt much.
The worst part was just sitting folded over for a few hours. I didn't think the tattoo itself hurt more than my forearms.

7. I know I'll have more tattoos done but I haven't decided where or what.

I avoid pain as much as possible so I think about that factor when planning body art. I don't think I'm going to be doing anything on my arms.

13. Thank you. It took longer to redo the design than the original tat.

Now I see why. I'm learning as I go and thankfully there haven't been any ugly mistakes.

The hummingbird and morning glory flower are on the outside of my upper calf muscle.

5. Good morning, SeattleGirl!

Two of my old tat were flat and lacked dimension. I liked them before I saw what could be done by a better artist so I decided to have the color retouched.

I saw a tat down in Key Largo that I'm thinking of having done on my posterior. I was going to have it done on my next visit but I'm thinking about sketching it to have done while I'm at home instead.
Mark is only the third person I've seen but he has a light touch. The tattoos I had done two weeks ago were deeper than they needed to be so I'll opt for a lighter touch in the future.

I am speaking as a total tat VIRGIN, however. I do want to get a tat, but haven't been able to do same yet.

How are you, my friend? I miss you!!! :loveya:  :loveya:

11. I'm enjoying my freedom this summer.

One of my house mates just started dating someone special so I may be down to one parrot sitter by this time next year.

I haven't been around DU very much late at night recently. :loveya: I miss you, the rest of the naughty girls and everyone else.

21. It always was in the past.

However high-speed at this stage of my life will take a little more careful management than it did 20 years ago.

8. That color is very vivid Joan....
...it looks awesome. My wife is coming up with her 50th birthday in July. She wants to get a dragonfly on her 50th. She just doesn't know where she wants it yet. I'll have to show her that one so that she can get a feel for a tatoo in that area...

9. If I had my druthers (which in this case, I don't), I would pick the
small of the back. VERY sexy, Robeson. You would BOTH like it, I think.

14. Dragonflies are lovely.

Perhaps she'll have it done before MissHoneychurch and I visit you two in September.

19. Thanks Joan. She is a big quilter, and shows her quilts in shows...
...and is known as the "Dragon Fly Lady" from her piers. She's really excited about getting this one done. I hope she has it when we see both of you! :bounce:

22. The best advice I can give you is look at an album of the tattooist work.

I wish your wife an easy time with her new tat when she does it.

18. I've changed artist.
I wasn't too keen about the colors in my first tattoo from the beginning but I didn't understand the problem until I took closeup photos with my digital camera. The tat is in an area that I wasn't photographing. She didn't have the outline fully connected and she didn't use enough ink for the colors. It was pale and washed out from the beginning but it took a bit of courage to redo it.
I'll be healed enough to wear clothes before my road trip starts on the 24th.

23. The final destination is California.

I've never been off of the east coast. If I don't go this summer I feel like I might not make it at all. I'm looking forward to spending a week in the Sacremento Valley and eating some garlic ice cream in Gilroy before I head back this way. It's funny but before meeting so many nice people on DU I never wanted to go west.

I plan to swing into the deep south to visit merh in my way home.

Thank you, MissHoneychurch.
I had two tattoos redone yesterday. I was in by 12:30 and out a little after 3 so it took less than the original estimate.

28. Thanks, u4ic. The tattooist recognized the work he was redoing.

It seems as if he has retouch or totally redesigned over quite a few of her tattoos.

I'm happier now. Except for the ouch part! There is a light pink background to the entire area now that it's 27 hours into healing mode. I'll be staying out of the sun and water for at least the next 7 to 10 days. x( no bubble baths or hour long showers
