This was a very cool song, but it was also a one-hit wonder; obviously, the Beatles would have been a one-hit wonder in the 80s as well. Remember, Terence Trent D'Arby was right around the corner, and so was Oasis, who were more popular than the Beatles in the 90s.

Score one for Terence Trent D'Arby.

Score one for Oasis.

13. and if you like THAT; check THIS out..
Disturbed redid Land of Confusion on this last album; and I really like it.
Others include: Shout 2000--Disturbed
Relax--Powerman 5000
99 Red Balloons - Goldfinger (this is really good!)
Tainted Love - Marilyn Manson (no really--I think he did a decent job of it; to repeat the above--as much as I don't like him).

3. Oh, sure.
It's the same way "Uptown Girl" was the "All Along the Watchtower" of the 80's.

5. You cannot ignore the overlying lattice of coincidence.
From "I Am The Walrus":

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come.

From "Let's Go All The Way":

Sitting with the Thinker, trying to work it out.

From "I Am The Walrus":

Oompa, oompa, very lovely oompa
Oompa, oompa, very lovely oompa

From "Let's Go All The Way":

Zjum zjum zinni ninni
Zjum zjum zinni ninni

6. No, U2's live cover of "All Along the Watchtower..."
was the "All Along the Watchtower" of the 80's.

7. Or perhaps, you could argue that...
... 'Karma Chameleon' was the 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' of the '80's.

But you couldn't argue it convincingly, though.

9. For "Jammin' Me" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers you could.
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 03:28 PM by LoZoccolo
Take back Vanessa Redgrave
Take back Joe Piscopo
Take back Eddie Murphy
Give 'em all some place to go

Lyrically those songs are very similar. And it is no surprise that Tom Petty replaced Bob Dylan in the story of rock.

8. I'd argue that Ronald Reagan was the Ronald Reagan of the '80s
same player, different decade

12. I do like that song.
I think that the studio version is superior in production value to anything that George Martin produced.
