but little groups have set up private chats from time to time. Kleeb and Maggie used to do one before they ran off to college. :P

its one of the many things you can use for chatting online but you don't need AIM to chat. You can use Yahoo Messenger or MSN's too. I use AIM because when i first got it all my friends in school were using it.

As a practical matter there are so many people on this board that maintaining meaningful or even minimally coherent conversations in a chat enviornment would be nearly impossible.
