Minor computer question

I am trying to plug in a fan in a DIFFERENT outlet than my computer but my computer is going crazy. WHY? any ideas?

thats what a friend said it was. Very old building and they were both on the same circuit. I'm going to try an extention cord from anther outlet tomorrow,
