Fred Phelps has finally gone over the edge. Gays to blame for dead GIs
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 07:21 PM by Cannikin
Protesters say soldiers’ deaths are God’s penalty for tolerance of gays

The father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by anti-gay protesters from a fundamentalist Kansas church filed an invasion-of-privacy suit against the demonstrators Monday.

It is believed to be the first lawsuit brought by a serviceman’s family against Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., whose members routinely demonstrate at military funerals around the country.

“I want it to stop,” he said of the protests. “I didn’t know there were people in the world who did that.”

Members of Westboro say the military deaths in Iraq are God’s punishment for America’s tolerance of gays. They typically carry signs with slogans such as “God Hates Fags” and “Thank God for IEDs,” a reference to the roadside bombs used by insurgents.

The church has inspired dozens of state laws banning funeral protests, including a Maryland law that did not go into effect until after Snyder’s memorial.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, a spokeswoman for the small congregation, said it is the first time Westboro has been sued by a soldier’s family.

2. They're insane.
They stand around shouting obscenities, trampling the flag, and a lot of them are little kids.
They're winners, let me tell you.
The Vietnam vets have been very helpful, though. They sit up in front of them on their motorcycles and rev the engines when the family and friends of the soldier are being led to and from the church. THOSE guys rock.

3. I thought it was the dead GIs who were to blame for the gays?
He needs to get his story straight, and to decide who he really wants to picket.

4. He's gonna get himself in trouble
Even people who hate gays are gonna be seriously angry at his disruption of the funerals of dead soldiers.

Hope the family wins the suit. They should. He's just plain evil.

Khash.

6. FINALLY? Where have you been?
Phelps has been this crazy all his life. I think he was dropped on his head as an infant.

Either that, or he's the queerest man in America (who, unfortunately, can't get a date because he's also the ugliest man in America) and he's overcompensating for his gayness by blaming everything from Dead Soldiers to Toe Jam on homosexuals.

What this dead GI's father will learn very quickly is that taking action against Phelps only motivates him.

7. He certainly could use
the insanity defense.

I hope others start suing him, too. What a pathetic excuse for a human being.
