Poll question: Which type of present/gift to you prefer?
I'm the only one in my family who wasn't born in a summer month...so I've got a lot of birthday buying to do.:freak: I also have trouble deciding what to get my sister, mother and father because personally, I prefer presents and gifts that at least somewhat of a surprise even if it may not be exactly what I wanted. But that might be just me. So I never know if I should get what someone specifically asks for, what they've mentioned before, or something that may not have ever crossed their minds.:dilemma:

So I've decided to do a scientific poll here at DU and use the results as my basis for gift buying!

Is it really the thought that counts?

Feel free to share you reasoning or suggestions.

By the way, this is my first poll:evilgrin:

2. Other--just give cash or a gift card.
We have a horrible problem in our family. IF you tell people exactly what you want, you might get it--or what they think is close to it. Otherwise, you can come up with some wild and crazy stuff. Now we invest in gift cards or just send cash. Most of the time I would rather have some small token that the person remembers the event.

4. Other - a gift that shows they were thinking specifically about me
That they found something that speaks uniquely to who I am as a person, showing that they have some understanding of who I am.

I especially love items that people have made themselves, whether a painting or a statue or even decorated a picture frame with a photo of that person, or of me, or of us, or some landscape they took...
