:eyes:

I am hoping she can perfect this rendition. Then she'll be able to provide her own music if she gets married someday.

1. Wanna hear something funny about that song?
The catholic church won't allow it at weddings anymore. The composer supposedly wrote it for prostitutes.

16. I knew that it wasn't allowed, but I did not know why.
That's interesting!

18. I'm playing it in a Catholic church on Saturday...
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 06:44 PM by GoddessOfGuinness
and nobody seems to mind. Though it was originally composed as incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, which might irritate some ultra-religious folks what with all the fairies and such. :eyes:

I wonder if you're thinking about Massenet's Meditation from the opera "Thais", which is a story about a famous (or infamous) courtesan who tries to seduce a priest. Faithful to his vows, he actually converts her to Christianity; and she agrees to let him escort her to a convent, where she can be a good nun. On the way there, however, during the "Meditation" scene, he realizes he is in love with her. Of course, she dies before he can profess it. The piece of music was banned from the church for a long time; but it still manages to be played there now and then...

Here's the Wikipedia blurb about the Mendelssohn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_March_(Mendelssohn)

19. Hmm. Maybe things have changed in the past few years.
I got married in the RC church 21 years ago and we were not permitted to have that song played. Sounds like things have changed for the better!

6. The motherly pride brings a tear to my eye, alright.
What a weird, funny kid. My other kid is pretty funny too, but she's a little more cerebral about it.
