1. "Private Idaho" - The B-52s
Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoo
You're living in your own Private Idaho
Living in your own Private Idaho
Underground like a wild potato.
Don't go on the patio.
Beware of the pool,
blue bottomless pool.
It leads you straight
right throught the gate
that opens on the pool.

You're living in your own Private Idaho.
You're living in your own Private Idaho.

Keep off the path, beware the gate,
watch out for signs that say "hidden driveways".
Don't let the chlorine in your eyes
blind you to the awful surprise
that's waitin' for you at
the bottom of the bottomless blue blue blue pool.

You're livin in your own Private Idaho. Idaho.
You're out of control, the rivers that roll,
you fell into the water and down to Idaho.
Get out of that state,
get out of that state you're in.
You better beware.

You're living in your own Private Idaho.
You're living in your own Private Idaho.

Keep off the patio,
keep off the path.
The lawn may be green
but you better not be seen
walkin' through the gate that leads you down,
down to a pool fraught with danger
is a pool full of strangers.

You're living in your own Private Idaho,
where do I go from here to a better state than this.
Well, don't be blind to the big surprise
swimming round and round like the deadly hand
of a radium clock, at the bottom, of the pool.

I-I-I-daho
I-I-I-daho
Woah oh oh woah oh oh woah oh oh
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Get out of that state
Get out of that state
You're living in your own Private Idaho,
livin in your own Private.... Idaho

And earlier:
"
Yeah I, I got to know your name
Well and I, could trace your private number baby
All I know is that to me
You look like you're lots of fun
Open up your lovin' arms
I want some

Well I...I set my sights on you
(and no one else will do)
And I, I've got to have my way now, baby
(and no one else will do)
And I, I've got to have my way now, baby
All I know is that to me
You look like you're havin' fun
Open up your lovin' arms
Watch out, here I come

*You spin me right round, baby
right round like a record, baby
Right round round round
You spin me right round, baby
Right round like a record, baby
Right round round round

I, I got be your friend now, baby
And I would like to move in
Just a little bit closer
(little bit closer)

**All I know is that to me
You look like you're lots of fun
Open up your lovin' arms
Watch out, here I come

<*Repeat>

I want your love
I want your love
<**Repeat>

<*Repeat and fade with ad lib>
"

3. ARMY DREAMERS by John Whiffin and Jacqui McShee
Yes, I know Kate Bush wrote the original version, so her original lyrics are posted below. The Whiffin/McShee version is primarily acoustic guitar and violin, and the omnipresent camera shutter has been replaced with the solitary cocking of an assault rifle.

Our little army boy
Is coming home from B.F.P.O.
I've a bunch of purple flowers
To decorate a mammy's hero.

Mourning in the aerodrome,
The weather warmer, he is colder.
Four men in uniform
To carry home my little soldier.

"What could he do? Should have been a rock star."
But he didn't have the money for a guitar.
"What could he do? Should have been a politician."
But he never had a proper education.
"What could he do? Should have been a father."
But he never even made it to his twenties.
What a waste.
Army dreamers.
Ooh, what a waste of
Army dreamers.

Tears o'er a tin box.
Oh, Jesus Christ, he wasn't to know,
Like a chicken with a fox,
He couldn't win the war with ego.

Give the kid the pick of pips,
And give him all your stripes and ribbons.
Now he's sitting in his hole,
He might as well have buttons and bows.

Ooh, what a waste of all that
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers.

4. Ok, here's mine so far
Josh Ritter - The Animal Years (Beautiful - he doesn't just imitate his folk idols)
Damone - Out Here All Night (I'm not the biggest fan of 80s hard rock, but when they combined it with an Avril-esque sound and strong female vocals, they made one of the best CDs of the year!)

album listening party. Was disappointed in Angels And Airwaves' We Don't Need to Whisper CD. Blink 182's Enema Of The State is a big guilty pleasure of mine, but the artiness of Angels And Airwaves doesn't work. It just sounds like he's completely out of place. Couldn't DeLonge have made catchy stuff while dropping the silly jokes?

Less Than Jakes' new CD sounded better, but I'm not sold on buying it yet.

7. Voodoo Child ~ Jimi Hendrix
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand

Yeah

Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise a little sand

Yeah

cause I'm a voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child baby
I want to say one more last thing
I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back to ya one of these days

Hahaha

I said I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back one of these days

Oh yeah

If I don't meet you no more in this world then uh
I'll meet ya on the next one
And don't be late
Don't be late

cause I'm a voodoo child voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child

Hey hey hey

Im a voodoo child baby
I dont take no for an answer

Question no
Yeah

The Best of Siouxsie and the Banshees. It's a compilation of what the band considers to be their best stuff over time. It's got a good selection of tunes from their albums. :D I heard a VH1 Classic interview with Siouxsie and Budgie not long back, and they both said that the songs on The Best were representative of their style and how it evolved over time. I have to agree! :) Great stuff! :)

You can graduate to the harder stuff after you've gotten broken in on The Best... LOL! :D

23. Damn Blue Collar Tweekers--- Primus
I've seen them out at Soco
They're pounding sixteen penny nails
The truckers on the interstate
Have been known to ride the rails
The sweat is beating on the brow
Can't keep these fellas down
'Cause those damned blue-collared tweekers
Are runnin' this here town

I knew a man who hung drywall
He hung it mighty quick
A trip or two to the blue room
WOuld help him do the trick
Hise foreman would pat him on the back
Whenever he would come around
'Cause these dammed blue-collar tweekers
Are beloved in this here town

Now the union boys are there
To protect us from all the corporate type
While curious George's drug patrol
Is out here hunting snipe
Now they try to tell me different
But you know I ain't no clown
'Cause those damned blue-collar tweekers
Are the backbone of this town

Now the flame that burns twice as bright
Burns only half as long
My eyes are growing weary
As I finalize this song
So sit back and have a cup o' joe
And watch the wheels go round
'Cause those damned blue-collar tweekers
Have always run this town

41. Shuggie Otis, Hawkwind, the Byrds, Donovan (so far)
Edited on Mon May-29-06 07:25 PM by no name no slogan
Shuggie Otis: "Inspiration Information"

Absolutely amazing, ahead of its time album. You've probably heard it all already (sampled to death on other records)

Hawkwind: "Quark, Strangeness and Charm"

Hawkwind does post-punk, before it even exists. "Spirit of the Age" could be an outtake from any of Ultravox's first three albums.

The Byrds: "Sweetheart of the Rodeo"

The album that virtually invented the country-rock and alt.country genres. Without this, you have no Uncle Tupelo, Flying Burrito Brothers or Wilco. But please don't blame it for the Eagles.

Also a couple Donovan tunes ("Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Get Thy Bearings"), some Grant Lee Buffalo ("Bethlehem Steel" and "Mockingbirds"), and a gypsy rumba group called Tekameli.

42. Right this moment?
Sinead O'Connor "Daddy, I'm Fine"

I was born in Dublin town
Where there was not too much going on down
For girls whose only hope
Was not to find a man who could piss in a pot
So early I heard my first guitar
And I knew I wanted to be a big star
And I told my poor worried father
Said I ain't gonna go to school no more
Cuz see I wanna look cool and I wanna look good
With my hair slicked back and my black leather boots
Wanna stand up tall with my boobs upright
And feel real hot when the makeup's nice
I get sexy underneath the lights
Like I wanna fuck every man in sight
Baby come home with me tonight
Make you feel good make you feel all right
I'm going away to London
I got myself a big fat plan
Gonna be a singer in a rock 'n' roll band
And I'm gonna change everything I can
Sorry to be disappointing
Wasn't born for no marrying
Wanna make my own living singing
Strong independent Pagan woman singing
And I feel real cool and I feel real good
Got my hair shaved off and my black thigh boots
I stand up tall with my pride upright
And I feel real hot when the makeup's nice
I get sexy underneath them lights
Like I wanna fuck every man in sight
Baby come home with me tonight
Make you feel good make you feel all right
I'm glad I came here to London
I've myself some big fat fun
And I have even made some mon'
I got the most angelic son
My baby daughter is golden
And I do what I like for fun
And I'm happy in my prime
Daddy I'm fine I'm fine Daddy I'm fine
Daddy I'm fine I'm fine Daddy I love you

46. Now today
Just got up, and put on Jolie Holland's Springtime Can Kill You. Has nicely eerie lyrics, but I think Sonya Kitchell has a better voice at 17. Also could use a change of pace. A solid *** out of ****.

Here are some ratings for CDs not yet in my possession (out of ****) -

Holly Brook - Like Blood Like Honey **** (it's on order)
Sierra Swan - Ladyland **
Angels And Airwaves - We Don't Need to Whisper **
Smoosh - It's So Electric ** (* 1/2 if they weren't that young - they are getting ahead of themselves)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium ***
Neil Young - Living With War (sounds like ****)
Sophie Barker - Earthbound **
Less Than Jake - In with the Out Crowd **1/2

Yesterday and today, I heard:

Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way
Susan Cagle - The Subway Recordings
Jewel - Goodbye Alice In Wonderland (Until more evidence emerges, I'm going to believe Jewel was there with Burns only because of her and Ty Murray's outdoor interests)
Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
