Poll question: MUSICIAN WITH MOST UNIMPEACHABLE LEVEL OF COOL
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Highest level of cool factor, vote! NO, you don't get an "other" choice! What do you think this is, a democracy? Damn!

He's obviously amazing, and a genius, and awesome. But cool in the Charlie Parker, Coltrane mold...it's a different thing. Obviously very subjective. :)

12. Where's John Cale?
It just doesn't get any cooler than John Cale. Hell, he produced the first Stooges, Patti Smith, Squeeze, Modern Lovers and so many more, that should do it by itself. Not to mention his work with John Cage, Lamonte Young, Velvet Underground, Eno, Twyla Tharp, ad infinitum.

And still rocking hard in his 60s.

There was no one cooler in the 70s when he was living in NY.
And though I love Van Morrison, part of his appeal is he's the opposite of cool.

43. I did that years ago with the BEST MOVIE EVER voting.
There was no poll function then. We narrowed it down through a full week of preliminary rounds, and then did the finals on a Friday. If I remember correctly, Citizen Kane won, but close runner-ups were Seven Samurai, Vertigo, and The Godfather. It was fun! If we had archives available, I'd pull it up for you.

Evans was a massive heroine addict, then a crackhead, IIRC. He died of pneumonia induced by psychoactive drugs and liver failure--not surprising in the least.

But was he ever brilliant! And not just in a musical sense--some of his writings on music and jazz and the piano were astoundingly profound.

But I'm not doing to mention any names

or say anything else that might make you want to run screaming from the lounge,

like suggesting any initials (M.D.)

because that could be considered indelicate and impolite

or mention that his name is synonymous with 'cool', even when he's Not mentioned by name

because my mother always told me I should play nice.
