SKITTLES the Cat UPDATE: She . . . is . . .
Edited on Tue May-16-06 11:52 AM by bertha katzenengel
BACK!

backstory: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5157331

:woohoo:

My baby kitty's back! Woo hoo!

Now . . . unpleasantness must be done. She must be spayed NOW, despite what I know she's been doing out there. :( We can't have kittens. We can't foster kittens. If I can't trap her I will have to beg and plead of someone at the Humane Society to take her in for fostering.

But for now just party with me!

:woohoo:

edited because i know the difference between the words "please" and "plead" - I really do.

2. Glad to hear it Bertha
Can you get animal control in your city to trap it for you? They may be helpful. Of course you'd want to find out first if they'd give the kitty back to you.

5. We had to do that once.
We had taken in two feral kittens, but they were too long in the wild to be socialized. Two women from the humane society came with capture poles. We locked the cats in a small room and had moved all the furniture to the walls. It took those good women about fifteen minutes to catch two terrified cats.

We had them spayed/neutered and gave them to a friend for barn cats. :)

I wanted to post that she might return but I didn't when I saw this yesterday because you never know, but cats can stay gone a long while and still come back, my cousin's cat was gone for almost 2 weeks and came back...I am sure you will have no problem trapping her, dont' worry, it will work out.

(edit: I just read through the lyrics to this song and I have to say it is deranged: http://www.kididdles.com/mouseum/c020.html )

"The atom bomb fell just the other day,
The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;
Russia went, England went, and then the U.S.A.
The human race was finished without a chance to pray.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea "

19. oh, that is bizarre....
besides "smelly cat," this is the only cat song i know

chorus:
well, well, well, my cat fell in the well
oh, pussy, pussy, pussy, poor kitty, kitty, kitty
my cat fell in the well

(my big moment - i got to do this little solo)

if you have a pussy that you would not trade or sell
never let her wander or she might fall in a well!

LOVED singing that song. We did it badly but it was fun.

But your cat song... bee-zarre!

Not much of a hussy by today's standards... that is, if you listen to RWNBs.

7. yes, she needs TNR
i hesitate to do that w/ stray toms near the house, because they get driven off by active males 1ce they lose the edge, but they don't seem so territorial w/ spay females & the population's got to be kept down.

PM if you think i can offer helpful advice on trapping, but i know you're very experienced yourself.

*very* glad she's back around and hope things turn out well!

8. Strangely, our latest neutered male, Big Charley, still fights.
In fact, the only one who can kick his ass is Ringtail, feral new mommy. He picks fights with the other males, neutered or not, and mixes it up just fine (?). Rather dismaying. But at least he can't tomcat no more.

And of course, Daddy, neutered 3+ years now, is The Neighborhood Alpha Cat. :eyes:

Thanks, Jukes. :pals: I dig you, buddy.

11. Once a tomcat, always a tomcat.
You'll never get all of it out of him. He'll always want to go out and kick ass.

12. males neutered *after* they've reached maturity
*can* retain some active-male attributes, such as fighting-spirit & even some dominance. females seem to be little effected by spaying, other than no longer being kitten-factories. my current *alfa* is actually a spay-female feral who matriarched a feral colony in a swamp. i had to take in the entire colony when i discovered that the swamp was going to be filled & levelled for a parking-lot. there was no where in the vicinity to move them to.

"bridgette" (named after "maitresse bridget" of the voudoux pantheon) is DEFINITELY the authority in this household, & reminds me w/ greatr frequency!

you're 1 of my fave DUers likewise, Berth. still lurk your threads consistently, even if i have nothing to add!

27. I wonder.
Moosy, sibling to Skittles, was neutered at about one year. He is practically a housecat now - NOT feral at all, although he grew up outside. Go figure.

Anyway with him in the house and Skittles in heat, well, he mounted her a few times, and was able to do SOMETHING that made her howl as if she'd been, uh, you know. Penetrated.

I wonder if he was able to achieve something of an, uh, you know, enough to get that far.

Anyway, I blame Moosy for her getting out. He stimulated something!

26. He was neutered too late
If he were neutered when he was still a kitten (about 6 months), he wouldn't be fighting so much.

39. So glad to here that! I hope she's not "a girl in trouble" already.
Spay ASAP. My mother had a cat get pregnant a couple weeks after she gave birth. I begged my Mom to get her spayed and she said "I don't have the money right now." Sure enough, in no time, she was pregnant again.

28. That's Great!!!
:woohoo:

Our cat panda jumped off the deck (we're on the third floor), and was gone for 11 days before we finally found him. It was the most depressing time in a long time. He apparently roamed the neighbor for about a week before being taken in by a very nice family. We had put signs all over the neighborhood, and the people that rescued him saw the sign and called us.

Needless to say, he is not allowed on the porch anymore.

Eleven days! And I had a hard time with five days. When Charley Girl got out last year she was only gone two days and I was panicked. I'm such a weenie.

31. There is a HUGH!!!11!! bumblebee that buzzes around
right off of the deck, and we figure that Panda got excited and jumped off after the bumblebee forgeting that its three stories down. He was not injured at all, though he did scrape his claws down to nothing. The claws have grown back within a month, and my wife had to trim them over the weekend!

We think Panda may have a few bubbles in his brain!
