Mandisa's being voted off "American Idol" proves the show is hopeless
Mandisa was the best singer--bar none--on that show. Yeah, she wasn't at her best on "country music" night, but neither was Bucky, who is supposed to be a country singer, that good. And yet "Ace" once again gets away by--looking like a deer in the headlights--soulfoul looks at the camera.

The show will probably come down to this--same as last season--rocker Chris D. and vapid country chick Kellie Pickler--their both good (especially Chris) but Mandisa is a true artist.

Just my two cents.

but she had a very bad two weeks. A lot of people did not appreciate her preaching song two weeks ago, especially with the lifestyle comment.

11. anti-gay comment
"This song goes out to everyone who wants to be free! Your addiction, your lifestyle, your situation may be big. But God is bigger."

That's what she said in introduction to her singing "Mary Mary" the gospel song. Many people took that to be an anti-gay remark (the use of the word 'lifestyle')

rallies (Moore writes family values/anti gay books, etc.).

28. She may have been voted off anyway, but there was alot of press
about all of this in The Advocate, and other gay press and web sites. I guarantee that this affected her votes. I was a big "meh" on her anyway, because all she ever does/did was belt out songs... but that capped it for me. It showed what intolerance and cruelty was behind the smile and the "Jesus" words.

30. She was too preachy
That doesn't belong on AI. Of course I don't think country music belongs on AI either. They have Nashville Star. Would Nashville Star allow Queen on their program? Then AI souldn't allow county music on theirs.

on AI... Country can be very difficult/unique to sign... just like R&B, Jazz, etc. The "theme nights" should be broader.

Not everyone can sing everything... just like Michael Jordan couldn't play baseball.

32. Ain't that the truth
I had to watch MJ play at the Hoover Met and it was painful. Many called him the greatest athlete, but I saw he was probably the greatest basketball player and that's it. Baseball wasn't his thing.

35. The Advocate
http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid29157.asp">She did an interview with The Advocate

According to her, her lifestyle comments were about her own struggle with weight -- "food addiction"

She does believe homosexuality is wrong, and she would not appear at a gay function. However, she doesn't know enough about it to say homosexuality can be cured.

5. They always "vote off" one of the best when there are 8 or so left.
Then they say, "America, you have to vote and watch so this doesn't happen." I didn't see it last night. but everyone was "shocked, shocked I tell you" weren't they. And how many times did Ryan say something about making sure we vote for our favorites. Same old story. They do it to make buzz.

The only truly talented one left is Paris. They will keep her around for awhile. Can't vote off all the black girls three weeks in a row.
It will come down to Kellie (the worst one left--her stupid "I am so innocent" act just gets on my nerves) and Chris (good, but pretty limited). Chris will win. They need a white male rocker this year to appease those who know that what's her name (stupid country singer?) should never have won last year.

And, as I said: a belter. No subtlety. And, she butchered the Shania song.

21. Mandisa might have burned a career bridge
Unfortunately, Mandisa, at age 29 was brought up in a time when it was acceptable to be intolerant. She made a grave error in expressing her opinions, since she is early in her career.

Though there is a Black population who is avidly anti-gay, that might agree with Mandisa, she has alienated the larger body who promote tolerance, and acceptance of diversity.

She did this too damn early in her career. Whether she will recover depends on her level of maturity to realize what she's done.

8. Votes fluctuate week to week, some fans get complacent
If a singer appears to be in danger (or came close to getting voted off last week) that singer's fans vote in droves, and singers who have previously seemed safe get in danger because fans don't get bothered to vote. Note how this week everyone in the bottom 3 had never been in the bottom 3.

Simon hit it on the head last week when he said she was a bit "indulgent" -- totally agreed with other comments already made in this thread about what led to her downfall this week.

Me, I'm a fan of Elliot, even though he won't win. He's got a Stevie Wonder voice, which I love, although surprisingly on Stevie Wonder week, he didn't do as well as he could have.

17. Elliot and Taylor will benefit by losing
They'll get picked up by agents or producers. Neither of them are pop stars. Elliot's a soul singer and Taylor's obviously better than overproduced top 40 pap. I kinda hope they lose. Paris, too. They're all better than the show.

20. She majorly sucked on Tuesday night.
I like her a lot, but she was not as great as she was in the past. In fact, hers was the worst performance Tuesday night, and I predicted that she'd get the axe.

Another of my favorites--Taylor--also sucked Tuesday night, and I really feared that he might be in the bottom three. I was amazed that he wasn't.

I hope that Kelly Pickler goes SOON. I hate her personality--"Ah'm a dumb-idiot southern blonde, yawl, and Ah'm proud!" She relishes her own stupidity, and I it grates me to see women fulfill the stereotypes that they think they should fulfill. Sad, really.

26. I'm very disappointed.
She had an off two weeks, but was still respectable IMO. She showed some restraint when she sang "Cry" a while ago. And she still had the most powerful voice there. For most likable voice, she was tied with Katharine IMO. Now if Katharine goes, I'll really be upset. I have a feeling that Kellie might go further than Katharine, unfortunately.

27. It's just a TV show, and it has nothing to do with music or talent. It has
plenty of prefabricated melodrama and failed attempts at risque humor. It's tacky, embarassing, insipid, disposable garbage TV - it makes a complete mockery of the entire musical progress of the last 3 or 4 centuries.... and I have watched every episode of it since Ryan Starr was booted off in Season 1, and have no intention of stopping...

34. They need to make it more like the old talent nights at the Apollo

My understanding is that the talent nights could be pretty brutal at the Apollo. From some reading I've done, it appears that there were instances where the audience actually threw bottles at performers who totally stunk up the joint.

Now, if American Idol had that type of audience involvement going it would definitely jack up the entertainment value.

It goes to show how wishy-washy the voters are. I am a Katherine McPhee and Taylor Hicks fan. So I wouldn't have voted for Mandisa even though I know she is truly talented! Also, she may have burned some bridges with her gospel song. Not everyone is Christian, Elliot for one is Jewish, so she maybe should have reached out to all voters and not just the Christian ones. I don't fault her for singing that, but it may have turned some off!
