i'm watching "avalanche" from 1978
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 10:29 PM by sundog
it's an all star disaster movie of the first order

so far, the avalanche hasn't started yet - well there was a "mini avalanche" that was kinda set up like the water skier attack in "jaws 2," but the skier jumped into the top of a tree & escaped (it was chasing him i think)

no, right now everyone is happy & ice skating & dancing in the lodge

some guy with feathered hair threw some milk on his girlfriend & she started screaming & ran outside with her teddy on

oh yeah, it said it was pg on the sleeve, but they just showed some woman's tits in a hot tub with rock hudson

mia farrow keeps popping up here & there with some old lady

roger corman produced this puppy

good stuff

1. Is it on the tube or did you rent it?
And if you rented it, why?

Actually, I love those old disaster films, they are so campy.

Still make that noise - can't spell it out, but you know the noise I mean. :freak:

I vaguely remember avalanche.

Enjoy the camp!

I could use that right now so I am disappointed its a rental and not a film I can turn on. :hi:

10. Did you ever see Piranha II?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082910/

They grow wings and the climax of the movie is a swarming at the town's annual Fish Fry.

It's an amazing piece of cinema.

Note: it's directed by none other than James Cameron!

15. I loved the disaster flicks
They were so over the top. I was in high school when they were all coming out and I wrote a couple of parodies - one was called "Fire On Fairground Road" (Fairground Road was where the high school was) and another was entitled "Three Days In An Outhouse". They were peopled by all the kids I knew at school who died in many spectacular ways in them, leaving a small group of survivors (chief among them yours truly, of course). Wish I still had them....

We watched that for our 8th grade party! My mom tried to get My Bodyguard for us but our school's fundy principal objected to all the bad language. :eyes:

Apparently he had no problem with killer bees. :D

20. OK, when you see the girl in bed in one of the rooms in a bikini
that's it. That's when the snow hits the lodge.

When you get done with that, try to rent "Winter A Go-Go." It's only a disaster in getting a glimpse of what Americans thought was "cool" in the early sixties. Honestly, there is not a better movie to explain why normal people were hitting the acid.

Makes Roger Corman and Bert I Gordon look like brilliant auteurs, that one does.

look like an auteur. He created some of the most incredibly mindless crap ever filmed.

Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 11:29 AM by DaveTheWave
...going around warning everyone of an impending disaster but nobody cares and there's the typical, evil, rich lodge/resort owner that says, "we're not going to evacuate our lodge and cause and unnecessary panic". Usually that guy (the lodge owner) gets killed.

Am I close? It's the same script to almost every disaster movie ever made.

26. Thanks but in JAWS...
...the "evil" mayor didn't get killed. Now in "Dante's Peak" it was Pierce Brosnan's boss who said "no" and he died in a bad way.
