1. Oooh I'd watch it
but I already own it so I can watch it anytime. Its a great movie though not my favorite all time WWII flick but it really is the best you'll get on Operation Market Garden.

2. A largely forgotten piece of the war.
Germany's last great victory.

3. Its probably because it was Germany's last real victory that it is forgot
I actually first learned about Market Garden when I played Medal of Honor Frontline such a fascinating battle too bad it was a failure, the war could have been over by Xmas.

4. I read the book by Cornelius Ryan when I was younger.
It was a bold plan, too bold in the end. Too bad Airborne troops aren't much good against armored divisions.

5. I have the book but like too many of my books I just havent read it yet

Ive read Ryan's Longest Day, I wish another D-Day epic would be made. Saving Private Ryan was a great movie but it wasnt D-Day in its entirey, wasnt meant to be of course but I still want that D-Day epic. By the way did you know about the Flags of our Fathers movie? Ive read the book and one of my distant relatives is a important character in the book and he's gonna be played by Barry Pepper who played the sniper in Saving Private Ryan, Maris in 61, one of the guards in Green Mile.

6. I didn't hear of that movie. Sounds interesting.
I'd like to see someone like Ken Burns take a crack at D-Day using Stephen Ambrose's books as a roadmap. Actually, I need to get to the Eisenhower Center - I wonder if it was damaged in the hurricane.

7. Flags of our Fathers is about Iwo Jima
and the six guys who were the flagraisers there, its a great book, I highly recommend reading the book, what makes it so interesting is that the six Marines are basically part of the American fabric so to speak, it was really interesting to see what people thought of a distant relative of mine, it seems like he was a larger than life hero, and there's even a story in there about President Truman visiting my grandparents hometown in Pennsylvana during his reelection run and talking with Mike's parents and telling his baby sister that it was an honor to meet his parents. It was probably reading that endeared me to President Truman. I too would like to see the Eisenhower Center, a Burns style documentary would be great for D-day I think too. Spielberg is making another mini series only this one will be in the Pacific.

13. Whats ultimately sad is how many WWII vets die each day
Its part of life but its quite sad, to see such a great generation like that gradually falling away, their sacrifaces though were among the bravest the nation has ever seen though.

15. Thanks to the good works of guys like Ambrose, at least their words
have been written and preserved. I want to go to Pointe du Hoc so bad. James Earl Rudder and his Rangers were BAD ASS!!! He was also a graduate and former President of Texas A&M my alma mater.

17. Yeah Ambrose really did a great service for the country
I find Band of Brothers to be one of the best books ever, there's also a biography on Major Winters that I got for Christmas, its called Biggest Brother, I found it by sheer accident while looking at Amazon.com one day.
