Chet Atkins playing Dave Brubeck's "Take Five"
Just came up on my iPod. Shit, I did't even realize I had it. I knew I had a lot of Chet Atkins and I knew I had some Brubeck albums, but this song was a nice surprise. Fucking brilliant guitar playing too. Atkins' fingers aren't human.

3. You're right...died in 01
So sad. Kids today don't understand what a HOT guitar player he was. Even the kids who are into music don't understand it. I'm willing to bet 99% of their guitar "heroes" couldn't hold a candle to Atkins when it comes to fast licks. For a while, NOTHING went down in Nashville without going through Atkins. Made many enemies as a result, but I don't think anyone ever denied his talent.

4. He was one of the main reasons I watched Hee Haw.
Roy Clark was seriously underrated, too.

8. Enemies? I doubt it. He was the most genuinely nice guy
in the industry, from what I've been told. Everyone that I know who has met him couldn't say enough about what a kind, decent guy he was.

9. This would have been very early on
Apparently he wasn't too keen on the way things were being handled in Nashville, so be basically took over the town. :D

11. Actually, many did dislike Atkins for his production approach...
in that he took the "honky tonk" out of country music and replaced it with a smooth, syrupy, string-laden sound. In many ways he is the father of the soulless, slick country music of today.

7. That sounds like quite a version.
I must seek it out. What you say about Chet Atkins as a guitarist is dead-on.
