Least passionate singer?
Aw, what the heck. Seein' as we have a thread on "most passionate singer," I thought it would be fun to do the obvious opposite in all seriousness instead of the usual tongue in cheek.

There's a style of singing that I actually like, and it's certainly the opposite of passionate. It's as if the vocalist is too tired or too bored to be bothered with screaming, howling or wailing. You know, like the vocals on Voivod's cover of the Batman theme song.

So name some that you actually like. I'll start it off: Beck.

8. Mike Douglas
hands down the least passionate singer of all time. His completely uninspired rendition of You Are My Sunshine couldn't hold a candle to The Doors.

Well, if his vocals count as singing; they're probably more like talking.

i love cake! don't talk bad about them! ;)

no really, he has some slower songs where he actually sings. all of their up-beat songs are the ones that get played though.

22. It's not that I don't like them
I've just always thought, at least based on what I've heard by them, that he always sounded very uninterested in what he was singing. I just thought of that as being part of the group's style. I actually like several songs by Cake.

17. Wilson Phillips
I realize that's a group, not an individual singer but all their songs sound like elevator music to me, just emotionless, atonal droning.

18. i can't stand passionate singers that suck
for example, that guy from "creed." i always hated that group but especially him. he would get all into himself during the song with these weird looks on his face - which wouldn't be so bad if he could carry a tune!

20. Eddie Vedder
that faux-warbly "soulful" voice is so contrived and annoying. I've rather listen to the cat-going-through-a-meatgrinder whine of Billy Corgan than hear Eddie butcher another fake-hard-rock "masterpiece".

Beautiful lady and a group with some cool songs, but man! she just can-NOT put any oomph into her singing. I usually fall asleep listening to them.

OTOH, their album, The Caution Horses, is one of the best f*ck albums of all time!

Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 02:40 PM by mvd
Avril Lavigne (kind of a not a care voice that's quite effective)

Lead singer of The Strokes

On edit: and Liz Phair! Her flat voice doesn't sound disinterested.

One I don't like would be the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys.
