So at target last night...
Apart from screen dye t-shirts (made for 50 cents each, sold for $10) that had fun phrases like "Not now, I'm busy" with an icon of a person playing xbox, or my favorite - a pink shirt with the word "undermedicated" on it that I bought ... everything seemed to be about pushing corporote logos to our children.

From our "culture" (meaning logos of dead rock bands (led zeppelin, jimi hendrix, et al) or logo images of dead video games (pacman, breakout, et al) ) to revived logos (care bears, strawberry shortcake, OMFG... gag me with a slotted spoon!), to even some new logos (bratz (how the hell did that trash get anywhere?!))

Worst of all are toys for kids. fischer price ATM machine. :wtf:

Went to the mall... more closed stores and closings...

I also went into sam goody - store closeout, no refunds. Most of their DVDs were MSRP or higher; so the 30% discount made the items on par with best buy. :eyes: I still bought a Tina Turner video album (mostly early 80s songs which I liked, but "Nutbush City Limits" was on there too. :bounce: ) Oh, they had LOTS of plaques reading "You are on camera." So I made sure to wave a few extra times.

Then went to Wilsons leather. Even made a light flirt with the gay attendent, though we weren't a match anyway. I saw the 50% off store sale and stumbled on a keychain and belt case to fit my phone and other equipment...

Lots of clearance stuff at the corporate pet store. 3rd week in a row I bought feeder fish for my Cichlids; and the female red canary seems to have recognized me by now. They have her caged in the middle of the floor and she's nervous all the time. I think we relate. :) They also had tricolor LED bulbs for the aquarium. Bought 3. Pricey but cool...

I wonder what the younger 20-somethings are thinking these days.

and then I got home, watched Star Trek's "The Way to Eden" for some reason...

1. a note on kid's toys....
it isn't anything new to make toys for kids that are just like adults...

baby teething rings that look like car keys
atm machines
phones...etc

the idea is that if you buy the toy that looks like mom or dad's stuff...the kids will leave your stuff alone.....but that never works out as well as you would like...our stuff is still more fun because it works and it is forbidden...

as for the Bratz dolls....ick...won't let my daughter have one...they are awful...

you haven't seen anything til you see the hootchy cootchy mama underwear for little girls...it borders on obscene....once again...who buys this stuff? I buy my daugther little girl stuff...it looks like little girl stuff...and you are only a little girl once.

2. May I recommend a great book?
THE HURRIED CHILD by Elkind. It's about imposing adult standards on kids and how that is messing kids up.
