Flame me if you must, but ice-dancing is super lame!
Ice dancing is total bullshit, it's just people who can't do the difficult moves required for pairs' figure-skating. It reminds me of those cushions that bolling alleys have to prevent gutterballs. And the music is really bad too. Frankly, this "sport" looks and sounds more like a segment from a rerun of the Lawrence Welk Show than something that belongs at the Olympics.

1. It's for the girls who refuse to throw up or grow too tall, and for the
guys who don't grow big enough to lift a girl in the air or who are not powerful enough to do quads in singles :)

3. If I wanted to watch people who couldn't figure skate, I'd visit the...
local ice rink

2. Flaming you would probably melt the ice
which really wouldn't be such a bad idea.

You're right. I think that they've got it in there to keep the little girl olympic hopefuls happy since the ski jumping is far to hazardous for their tender, delicate sensibilities.

4. I've never understood it
And I've watched every time since the debut in '76. I even remember the American couple who won the bronze that year. She had short blonde choppy hair that looked terrible compared to Dorothy Hamill's terrific short and sassy wedge.

The compulsories are the worst. At least there's some variety in the free dance later on. But when Torvill and Dean came back in '94 they tried some aspects that were more like pairs skating with lifts and the judges penalized them for it in the finals, dropping them to third. Since then the rules were tightened up and the event is boring. Although you can tell NBC is really trying to push the blonde American babe who just got citizenship, with all the face time they give her.

14. Why, because there are costumes and makeup involved?
I give credit to any athlete out there in any sport. They are doing what they love and have probably worked many hours to perfect what they do.

I cannot bend over without pulling a muscle so I'm in awe of athleticism in any form.

7. It's boring...
I'll take ballroom dancing any day over ice dancing.

8. No flames. I've seen better routines by people in parking lots during
an ice storm.

10. Agreed. Lamest "sport" ever.
If you can even call it a sport. I watched it last night, and it was not only hideously boring, but seemed incredibly pointless. I had the exact same reaction you did - it seems like ice dancing is for skaters that aren't good enough to do pairs competition. And all the women look really girly, not like athletes. At least Sasha Cohen, even though she's a little bird girl, has muscular thighs. The ice dancing girls look like sorority girls on ice skates (or maybe that's an insult to sorority girls). They should drop ice dancing from the Olympic lineup. It's a waste of space and TV time.

11. it looks easy, but GOOD ice dancing is quite difficult....
but the problem is it's still fixed.

Do all what they do with their edges and whatnot, and THEN say it's easy. Good ice dancers work very hard.

15. I like watching it more than the pairs skating.
The movements are less random and more graceful, IMO. They're all based on traditional dance steps. But no, as difficult as it is, I'm not sure it should be a competitive sport, because the judging is inherently unfair with something like this.
