Why I'm totally uninterested in seeing Brokeback Mountain
Even though I'm bi, and even though I've been in love with a guy at one time in my life...

It's a Chick-Flick!

Sorry, romance stories (other than Cassablanca) just have never appealed to me!

3. My husband liked it
I loved it. It has not left my mind in the last two weeks since I saw it. It is a lovely, well acted movie with a social message that everyone needs to see and think about, even those of us who have always been supportive.

5. I'm a lazy old fart
and don't like the hassle of going to a movie but it will eventually be on TV one way or the other. I'm looking forward to seeing it and I know my wife is as well. She just can't drag me to a movie house.

7. I am lazy and cheap...
so I will wait until Netflix has it and then have it delivered....that way I don't have to pay $17 to see it in a theatre and I just have to mail it back...

10. I don't normally recommend stuff on the big screen
Unless there's some specific reason to -- but Brokeback was one of the most gorgeously filmed movies I've ever seen. (And I have a degree in film studies.)

Some of the images of nature in that movie were absolutely breathtaking; so I'd recommend it on the big screen.

22. Same for me. I do want to see it (just to see what all the
fuss is about) - but I'll wait for the DVD. Too lazy to deal with going to the movies. Besides, everybody tells me the audiences are so rude nowadays, they all yak throughout the thing.

6. True enough
But I saw it with two bi guys and they liked it enough to see it twice. :) I wouldn't say it's a romance in the way most chick flicks handle it, though. It's more about how these two people just couldn't get it together.

Amazing acting, IMHO, and terrific script. (Not that I'm trying to sell you on it or anything!) ;)

8. This is no "chick-flick"....
it is not a "romance" story in the traditional sense in any way shape or form.

Yes, there is technically a romance. But it is a brutal, gut-wrenching, heart breakling film that has nothing to do with any romance film that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks ever appeared in.

It is, in fact, much more like "Casablanca".

You would be doing this film a terrible disservice if you were to dismiss it as a only a "chick-flick".

Hell
A Chick who loved "Brokeback Mountain"

11. Agreed
You know, in all the "gay cowboy" hype, that fact was completely lost on me that this movie is actually an epic sweeping tale spanning multiple decades of several people's lives who are trapped in awful circumstances.

I went into it expecting something far, far simpler than what I actually saw -- a totally gripping and compelling epic. That's the reason it's nominated for Best Picture -- not because it's about gay cowboys.

12. You said it perfectly.
It is brutal, gut-wrenching and heart breaking. I thought my husband was going to cry when the shirt scene happened and I was stunned that he did not fall asleep during the film. I was bawling my head off by that part but not in the traditional "chick flick" kind of way.

24. Nope, not when
it almost made my husband cry and he hates chick flicks, me too for that matter. This was far more than a chick flick, it is important.

13. FWIW, you really forget about the "gay cowboy" aspect about 20-30
minutes into the film.

Read the short story. It is so well written and definitely NOT lovey dovey...chickish.

18. Short Answer: Not enough stuff blow up or catches on fire in a chick flick
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 02:48 PM by emulatorloo
Long Answer: too calculating in working the heartstrings and wringing out the teardrops, like the most cloying and annoying 4.95 Hallmark Card

19. for me it's my short attention span
I like movies where I laugh a lot, or I get to see things getting blown up, or I get to see nekkid flesh. I'm a man of simple needs.

21. I'll wait for the DVD
I don't like theaters because there's never enough leg room. I'll watch it at home so I can read the sports page during the slow parts :)

25. It's actually not.
It's more about the struggles everyone goes through when homosexuality is forced into the closet. I am TOTALLY and completely against chick flicks AND I'm straight, and I can still assure you this is not a chick flick at all.

it would hurt their families. And it was.

Beautiful though.
