PayPal question: I keep getting these account verification
emails from PayPal...so my question is: do they do this?
The one today wanted me to confirm my credit card. Heck, I don't even remember which credit card I used to set it up.

I only used it one time.

I just don't want to fall into a scam...today the email was about a new authorized user.

anyone else getting these emails?

They're trying to get your paypal number and/or credit card information.

5. as I suspected. Good think I can't remember my actual
account number or which card I even used the one time I ever used paypal in the first place.

Not only will I report them to PayPal security I will raise the Yahoo SPAM alert

Thanks, good to know I was right all along.

6. hover over the link
It is definitely a scam.

The link they give you probably looks something like this...
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run

If you hover over the link it will be something like this...
http://84.60.164.147:8080/.paypal-account/

If this would be something official it would be in the paypal.com domain.

7. Don't even follow their links
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 01:59 AM by GoddessOfGuinness
as they've been known to contain viruses.

Instead, forward the e-mail to PayPal. I assume that they have an abuse/scam department, like Ebay does...

9. When I get those scam mails,
I follow the link, then put obscenities in the blanks where they ask for personal information.

13. I get them on a regular basis. You need to report them to
PayPal. Don't follow the link in the email. Go to the PayPal website and they will advise you to forward them to [email protected].

14. Yep,
They ARE scams. I had changed my email and I still get PayPal scams on my old email so I know they're scams.

I do know a friend of mine (he also Xanga-ed it as well) who got suckered into the PayPal scam and the scammers had withdrawn $500 from his account. Someone commented on his blog that they knew someone who got $5,000 withdrawn. He was lucky somewhat because he didn't actually have a lot of money in that account but the scammers managed to withdraw over what he actually had in the account and the bank probably stopped them from withdrawing anymore.

I can see why it's so easy to fall for them, I almost fell for one ebay one. After using my name and password I realised that this isn't what Ebay would do so I went to Ebay and changed my password.

15. If you answered ANY of these emails, you gsve away your account.
Change your account password at ONCE.

ALL such emails are from criminals. Paypal does not send out these emails.
