Atheists: 9 Baptists: 0
Four more Baptist churches burned in Alabama today.
I think it's a Vast Atheist Conspiricy.
Either that or it's the Methodists pissed off about something or other.
:sarcasm:

18. Former Baptists?
People whose parents or spouses used the Bible as justification for beating them? People who were taught they were inferior because of their genitalia? People who still have panic attacks about the Rapture?

27. I know a lot of former fundamentalist deconverts...
…and while they always seem to harbor an incredible amount of hostility towards their former religion, they gain their vindictive delight from engaging fundamentalists in debates, as they are intimately familiar with each and every logic hole.

22. Pretty much any non-Baptist living in the South, I'd imagine
I lived in the South, and any time you brought up, say Catholicism, Baptists would inevitably call the pope "the Left Hand of Satan" or "the Voice of Satan." Their comments about other Christian sects weren't much nicer. I have to imagine there's only so much of that crap a religionist can listen to before going ballistic.

I can't drive past a fundamentalist church without getting angry. Hell if I believed in violence... I am shuddering at my own thoughts right now. Hmm the fundies believe in a eye for an eye don't they?

32. I don't make the distinction
When I pass a church I have no way of knowing what's going on inside, and I simply don't have the inclination to learn about all the different sects and who preaches what. When I drive past any church I get really angry.

WKRG Channel 5 News (Mobile).
OK, I was wrong about the Vast Atheist Conspiricy.
It's a civil war between (among?) Bush** supporters.

Now...what is it the SUV clan has against the Baptists?
Inquiring minds want to know.

10. The fact that the fires are limited to one sect of one religion...
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 07:52 PM by Benfea
…suggests that this is not the work of atheists.

If atheists were doing it, the fires would be happening to as many sects of as many religions as possible. The fact that the fires are so targeted points at other Christians as suspects.

so you speak for all atheists everywhere, i see

edit: i'm not saying i think atheists did it, i just think it's a little extreme to just flat out say "we don't do things like that" and claim that as all the evidence needed

24. Indeed
There is no dogma attached to atheism, no philosophy or way of looking at the world that we all agree on, so you can't really make sweeping statements like that about us.

15. MOST atheists, yes...
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 09:04 PM by Benfea
…but if there's one thing you can say about atheists, it's that we're all very different from one another, and can only agree on one thing. You can't really make blanket statements about us except to point out that we don't believe in magic sky fairies.

Besides, the no true Scotsman logical fallacy is never a valid argument. The salient point here is that the attacks are limited to a particular sect.

17. Actually, aren't fairies feminine?
And God is supposed is supposed to be asexual, no matter what the fundies say. (I have my own reasons for believing in a God. It's not something I suddenly decided on, either. It's something I did give much thought to.)

that you can't be CERTAIN of ANYTHING, but especially whether or not
god(s) exist. This is what I always thought of as an agnostic position.

Burning any building is dangerous. And this is hurting many people whether or not you agree with their religion or not. This is not the way to go about it.

On edit, I am not implying that you think burning the building is okay. And on further edit, my bets would be that it isn't an atheist at all. But it IS obviously someone who has major issues with the Baptist religion.
