Question for all the DU "Car Guys"- Turn Signal
1988 Chevy Celebrity- 55,000 miles. Driving home today- the right turn signal flashes VERY slowly. I timed it, it is a 4-second delay inbetween flashes/clicks. Only on the right side, left side is fine. Front and rear turn-lights both went on when the turn signal was put on. Any ideas? (Please say it can still be a bad bulb... please say it can still be a bad bulb... LOL). Thanks.

4. bad bulb or relay.
if you need a relay it probably plugs into the fuse panel or relay panel (maybe under the hood). it just pulls out and plugs in. costs more than the bulbs, but still a do-it-yourselfer.

7. If it's flashing at all, it isn't the lamp (bulb)
Sounds to me like you've got a bad ground or corrosion in one or both (front and rear) of the lamp sockets. Check both of them for corrosion and good wiring connections. If they're cruddy and cleaning them doesn't solve the problem, replace the flasher.

8. Bad flasher unit.
I've had that happen, especially in older cars.
Some are easy enough to replace yourself, just upstream of the bulb.
You local auto parts store may be able to tell or show you just how to do it.

9. the most likely explanation is a faulty transmission
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 06:29 PM by northzax
either that or you are about to blow a head gasket. either way, get rid of the car now, before it dies in the driveway and you have a nice piece of sculpture on your hands. if you're lucky, your mechanic might give you a couple of hundred bucks for scrap. You should ask him.

17. no, see the problem is the transmission
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 12:29 AM by northzax
of electrical energy to the light bulb, ergo, it's the transmission. but you could be right, best change that anyway.
