The Ant, by Ogden Nash (best American poet ever)
Edited on Wed Jan-18-06 11:54 AM by Richardo
The ant has made himself illustrious
Through constant industry industrious.
So what?
Would you be calm and placid
If you were full of formic acid?

What's your favorite Ogden Nash poem?

1. Candy is dandy
but liquor is quicker.

Seriously though, A Lady who thinks she is thirty.

2. The problem with a kitten is that
Eventually, it becomes a cat.

I loved Ogden Nash when I was a young'un.

3. Here's my favorite Ogden Nash:
I think that I shall never see

A billboard lovely as a tree...

Indeed, unless the billboards fall,

I'll never see a tree at all!

He is SO cool.....

I hadn't heard yours before, my dear Richardo........

:loveya: :pals:

4. The Panther
The panther is like a leopard,
Except it hasn't been peppered.
Should you behold a panther crouch,
Prepare to say ouch.
Better yet, if called by a panther,
Don't anther.

5. I love that one, too.
Anybody know where I can read some of those classic Ogden Nash poems on the web? I'd like to see how my daughters like them.

6. I've got one I thought was Nash, but googling turns up sites that credit
Kipling:
There once was a man from Quebec
who was buried in snow to his neck
When asked, "Is you friz?"
He replied, "Yes I iz,
but we don't call this cold in Quebec."

Dammit, it sounds like Nash anyway!

7. The Octopus
Tell me, oh Octopus, I begs
is those things arms,
or is they legs?

If I were you, oh Octopus,
I'd call me "us".

8. The Centipede
I objurgate the centipede,
A bug we do not really need.
At sleepy-time he beats a path
Straight to the bedroom or the bath.
You always wallop where he’s not,
Or, if he is, he makes a spot.

My sentiments exactly! :-)
