1. i didn't know they were on either
did they stop running them on TV ? i know i stopped watching almost all of these award shows some years back when it seemed there were different endless award shows which just kept coming on in the same year with of course mostly the same nominees.

4. I've never been able to keep track of when the Globes were on...
...All I know is that they are before the Oscar's, and they alway use them to promote the potential Oscar winners.

Globe for Brokeback director Lee

Brokeback Mountain's Ang Lee was named the best director at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles.

But lead actor Heath Ledger lost out on the best dramatic actor award to Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were both honoured for their performances in the musical Walk the Line, about the life of Johnny Cash.

Felicity Huffman, best known for Desperate Housewives, won best dramatic film actress for Transamerica. Gay cowboy drama Brokeback Mountain has also won best screenplay and best original song.

It is also shortlisted for best drama and best actor for Heath Ledger. It competes in the best dramatic movie category against Brokeback Mountain, George Clooney's Good Night and Good Luck, A History of Violence and Woody Allen's Match Point.

The nominations were hailed as a triumph for smaller-budgeted films over big studio productions, as all the best drama nominees are independent movies made for under $30m (£16.9m). Clooney's first win of the night was for best supporting actor in a drama for Syriana while British actress Rachel Weisz won the supporting actress award for The Constant Gardener.

9. I'm not sure if it was included in this year's list but I thought "Crash"
was very well done with excellent performances and a story that reminded so much of what goes on in today's cities and the subtle and not so subtle prejudices we all have.

11. Ohhhhhhhhh, THAT Crash. I was thinking they were talking about the film...
...Crash, by David Cronenberg (1996) <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115964/> That's a freaky film.

IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase) says it's a 2004 film, they might be wrong though.

8. Ang Lee, damn he's good
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" used to be my favorite movie of the last 10 years, and now "Brokeback Mountain" is. The guy is a genius.

10. The BBC News keeps updating the RSS feed with this headline...
"Gay cowboy film scoops Globes"

Too funny.

So, is it that good? I haven't seen any of these films yet.

14. you'll be surprised.
it's very good -- and it will stay with you.

very three dimensional -- the acting is fantastic -- the cinematography -- wow.

it's about a lot more than love and gay folk though -- there are issues of class, the culture of the far west -- that are just so interesting.

the film actually makes you feel good it's so well done -- in spite of the unfullfilled love thing.
