Why I'm not going to see Brokeback Mountain
Yes, I said I was going to go to this movie just to see if any pudding was eaten.

I don't think I will, and here's why.

When you get past everything that has the right in an uproar, what we're really dealing with is...

* a love story
* that looks very much like a Western.

I don't like either love stories or Westerns, so Brokeback Mountain wouldn't do a thing for me.

1. I don't fault you for that
The other night, everyone was saying "watch Book of Daniel because it has the fundies panties in a twist..." No thanks. Looks like a stupid show to me. I'll brobably see Brokeback, but I don't think anyone should feel compelled to see it for political or ideological reasons.

2. I will likely go see it just to add my market share
I tend to support things the fundies get into an uproar over.

3. I only like Westerns if there's a gunfight or two.
Still, I'll at least catch it on DVD. I don't go to movies in the theater very often.

4. I plan to see this movie in the theater for a change....
I think it would benefit from being seen on the big screen.....

And it looks very interesting, as well....

5. Psst.....Word on the street is............there's no pudding in the movie!
At least thats what I've heard....

We'll go see it but, then, we're gay (duh). It'd be strange if we didn't at least consider it.

I don't get it.

I'll definitely see this movie. It's on my Must See list.

but hey, I can dig it. You're not into it. No biggie. Not for everybody, I suppose. It's cool.

16. Its something said by Cartman on South Park
Something about independent films being all about cowboys eating pudding.

19. Yes, it's a Cartman reference
In the episode "Chef's Salty Chocolate Balls," Robert Redford decided he'd killed Park City with the Sundance Film Festival and needed a new quiet mountain town to kill. Off to South Park!

Mr. Garrison announced the festival to his class, and Cartman said, "those are all those black-and-white hippie movies. They're all about gay cowboys eating pudding." When Wendy explained what an independent film really is, Cartman challenged her to show him one independent film that wasn't about gay cowboys eating pudding.

One of the last films in the festival was named "Two Gay Cowboys Eating Pudding."

Brokeback Mountain is an independent film about gay cowboys...according to Cartman, there's gotta be a plug for Jello Brand Pudding somewhere in it.

9. I won't see it either, but for the simple reason
that I read the story and it left me devastated. Powerful, moving story. I don't think the visual could do it justice.

12. Should I ask what "eating the pudding" is a euphemism for?
Or should I not, and merely pretend there's product advertising for Jell-o Pudding Pops as presented by Bill Cosby? (I hope I didn't offend him, that was not my intent...)

Trust me, I know first-hand.

13. Hmm, I will
The sex is supposed to be very steamy. And I've never had a problem with good lookin' boys gettin' it on. (However, I do know where to buy good porn)

But Ang Lee can be a very sensitive, sophisticated and sexy director. Just watch The Wedding Banquet. I'd like to see what he did with this.

Khash.

24. There wasn't much nookie in it.
I wouldn't call it a western, per se, either.

It was an excellent film over all, IMO, but Heath Ledger mumbled too much to the point it was hard to make out some lines.

14. I'll be honest.
I ain't gonna go see it because homosexuality between men makes me uncomfortable. I just have a negative view of male homosexuality, that ironically is not due to real homosexuals.

Anyway, it's sounds like it might be a good movie if i could get past my own demons.

21. Me too, not my kind of movie.
Personal feelings do not count as a story in my view. That's why I don't like these relationship movies.

28. If it's got pickup trucks instead of horses, it's not a real western.
And those turn of the century westerns where the town rich guy brings in the first Model T are suspect, too.
