Poll question: 'Classic rock' songs you still like after all these years
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 02:17 PM by undisclosedlocation
I'll start you off with some of mine, but the probability is that all of them will be replaced by your suggestions (assuming anybody makes any and that none of these get votes). I've been around a long time and know what kind of hell will come down on me if I put on "Stairway to Heaven" or "Come Sail Away" but what the hey; suggest them and they'll go up.

I tended to focus in on stuff they actually play on such stations (and play, and play, and play...) but you need not feel so constrained.

4. Of those suggested
I chose Yes, but I also like the Police.

Petty and Skynard are useless.

6. "Honky Tonk Women" by the Rolling Stones
and about 20 other Stones songs I might mention

Stevie Ray Vaughan, famous too late to be classic rock, but fun anyways.
"Texas Flood"
"The Sky is Crying"
"Little Sister Don't You Go"
"Little Wing"

Jimi Hendrix, probably the most underplayed classic rock artist.
"Purple Haze" "Wind Cries Mary" "Hey, Joe" "Red House" "Still Raining, Still Dreaming" "Voodoo Child"

Animals, all their greatest hits.

Early Jefferson Airplane.

I let others do all the Beatles songs.

7. I put on Stevie Ray because I heard the song on the radio
literally just before writing the poll.

I'll put "Honky Tonk Women" on the poll. I was trying to think of one Stones number that stood out above the rest. Just don't say "Start Me Up."

8. How about Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin
I still get goosebumps listening to the song on headphones during Page's guitar solo!

9. Of those suggested...
Either the Stones or the Crowes. I don't like Henley solo (though the Eagles are OK), and those Yes and Police songs are annoying as hell. Tom Petty's good, but it depends on the song.

12. "Blinded By the Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band
:hide:

Yes, I know the song was written by Bruce Springsteen, and yes, I know that
this is probably the most overplayed song on Classic Rock radio stations, but
I still love this song. (So there!)

17. I was referring to the radio format, hence the quotation marks
I'm sad, even depressed, to report that even Paul McCartney & Wings has been relegated to the Oldies format. Why? You'd have to ask the radio gods, or anyway ClearChannel.
