The guy who just called me Heidi -- his young son and I are both huge Angels' fans, that's why we know each other. We talk about the Halos almost every time we chance to see each other. He KNOWS my name is Bertha!

He just walked by my desk -- with my NAMEPLATE prominently displayed -- and said, "Hey, Heidi." :banghead:

I've been getting this forever because of my last name.

I get called "Lisa" or "Gretchen" after I've introduced myself - my name is Rachel.

Maybe I mumble. Or people don't listen. I've even gotten Gretchen a few times. Seeing as Grace is far more common than Gretchen I don't know why people would go there first.

I get mistaken for Hispanic a lot because my last name (which is Greek) mistakenly gets a "z" instead of an "s" sometimes. But if you know a lot of Greeks, you'd definitely know I was Greek by looking at me, making the Gretchen thing even weirder.

Everybody calls me Amanda because my last name sounds vaguely like Amanda. My name is Grace, not even close to Amanda.

But yeah, generally they act very stupidly. Of course, much of this is because they are essentially robots programmed by nature and culture to act in certain ways. (Individual nature adds a little spice to this, but generally not much.)

And once a culture has lost its grasp on the fundaments, those principles that underly nature itself and the roots of human interaction -- then this can be expressed in a stupidity that is as much cultural as it is individual.

But the wise have perspective and understanding, and this gives them power.

And since this sounds rather "oriental", how about haiku:
