20 years ago today singer Rick Nelson, 45, and six others were killed
http://www.leadingthecharge.com/stories/news-00118757.html

Today is Saturday, Dec. 31, the 365th and final day of 2005.

On Dec. 31, 1879, Thomas Edison first publicly demonstrated his electric incandescent light in New Jersey.

In 1775, the British repulsed an attack by Continental Army generals Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold at Quebec; Montgomery was killed.

In 1946, President Truman officially proclaimed the end of hostilities in World War II.

In 1985, singer Rick Nelson, 45, and six other people were killed when fire broke out aboard a DC-3 that was taking the group to a New Year‘s Eve performance in Dallas.

1. Yes, I remember it well.

When I was young everyone thought I looked like "Ricky" Nelson. I was only 5 years younger than he.

2. And what an underrated musician he was. And no, they were not cooking
speedballs on that DC-3. It was an equipment failure, and those attempst to pin the crash on freebasing were disgusting and untrue.

4. I remember that very clearly.
I was 19, and I was spending my first New Year's Eve with the man who went on to become the father of my oldest child. He spent the night getting shitfaced and passing out. You'd think that would have been a hint to me.

But, yes, I remember seeing the news on TV and being both shocked and sad.

5. I just bought the new Rick Nelson Greatest Hits cd.....
This week, remastered tracks, sounds great. He was truly, and still is an underrated rock n roll artist.

8. And for those who know who I am talking about, it was 20
years ago (on Dec 23) that the great D Boon of the Minutemen was killed in a van accident. If you know who D was, then you know what a shinning light he was for progressives. The guy was fearless, relentless, and one of us. RIP to Rick Nelson and D Boon.
