Human resources people - HELP!
ok, here is the deal (here's a thread I posted yesterday http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4469092&mesg_id=4469092)

the manager sent an email yesterday morning in reply to my voice mail saying she woul call me later that day or today. I don't think I need to call her today, but if she doesn't call, should I call her tommorrow morning? Should I give her a little longer?

Sorry I am obsessing, but I have been out of work long enough that I really need to make this work. Any suggestions?

Thanks

:eyes: :dilemma:

1. I would call her tomorrow morning
first thing. (Before she gets too wrapped up in the holidays.) It's been my experience that looking for a job is a big deal for the applicant, but the employer has other priorities and usually filling a position isn't as high up on the scale as we applicants would like.

Be polite and remind her that you expected to hear from her.

Good luck!

:hi:

2. Of course initiate contact with her. Don't ask her why she didn't call,
turn a negative into a positive. Be upbeat and understanding. I'd say something in the arena, "I realize this season is busy for everyone, but I was hoping to touch base with you before the holiday break. I'm looking very forward to hearing from you. I hope you have a fantastic day." Something along that line, but keep it upbeat, positive, relaxed but professional. Right now everyone in HR is busy and looking forward to a break. It is very frustrating when you are so anxious for work but remember, haste makes waste.

best of luck, relax, enjoy your own holidays, count your blessings instead of your deficits and be healthy!

5. Thanks a brazillion
Sorry about that.

Seriously, though, I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my somewhat manic query.

I guess I didn't mention that the person is the manager of a title insurance agency and not actually in human resources. But I think your approach makes sense in either case.

I guess I am just a little hyper right now and just needed to touch base with someone objective.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :pals:

7. Yes
Sorry to take so long to reply, but I've been working on applying for another job today.

I called this morning about 10:45 my time - 8:45 their time. She has gotten some other applicants locally "which may not pan out" in which case she call me for a telephone interview w/ her title manager next week.

I applied for a title examination position on the other side of the state (WA) today. Probably won't hear from them right way, what with the holiday. (I faxed it to Washington Woeksource who put it in the mail to the title company this afternoon)

Again, thanks for your interest
